Can someone please answer a few questions for me?

Hi guys,

I havent been on for the past week, works been busy! It was brought to my attention last night that peoples post counts had been decreased, Including mine, looking through half of the threads and the events of the past few days it looks like things went to sh*t.


So, ive got a few questions.

Apparently a "hacker" changed the post counts? Correct?

I'd like to know why a hacker would choose only certain members post counts to decrease, and only members that are currently active and well known.

No Mods lost their post counts did they? Wouldnt they be a target for a "hacker", or at least the Admins would be.

I'd also like to know how a "hacker" was able to "hack" into vBulletin, which is known for being very secure, and after the last forum upgrade was done, all and any security issues were addressed.

I'd like to know why a "hacker" would stop at someones post count, actually why someone would choose that in the first place? Why would a someone with the enough talent to "hack" into the most secure commercially available forum software decide that they'd stop at a few post counts.

I'd like to know what systems or plans have been put into place, or are under consideration in order to stop this from happening.

Another thing to note is the fact that is has all happened when management are considering the withdrawal of post counts, bit of a coincidence huh?


I dont intend to start any arguements here, i dont care too much about my post count, the thing that does annoy me is the fact that the general concensus is that AR was hacked, when, i highly doubt it was. Infact im 100% convinced that it was not.

I dont like being lied to, and this is what i feel has gone on here.

According to one of the mods yesterday it was not "hacked" by an outsider. They used the term "hack" to describe a system change they are trying out. I think it's in reference to the convo last week about post counts from the lounge being removed or discounted.

it seems to be affecting those with high lounge posting numbers. i dropped about 100 posts as well. i believe its related to the posts not counting in here (or soon to come once this bug is ironed out) somehow affected past posts.

ok cool, it was stated by many people that the forums were hacked bro. The "no post count in lounge" thing was introduced, and it worked fine, then it was withdrawn and a couple of days later all this happens.

Either way you look at this bro, something else is going on here, and having spoken to MANY different unbiased people my concerns have been confirmed.

Hey Messy I heard that there wasnt a hacker but that the message board server is actually an all knowing wise being and it decided to take out all useless posts and junk from each posters post count. Maybe thats why you went from 8 gazillion posts to 10. Not to be a conspiracy theorist or anything, but this might have been something the mods did to make a point. JMO

I heard the same thing. They will sometimes go through a users posts (if they have alot in a short amount of time) and check to see if they contribute anything to bb'ing at all. Apparently you have only contributed 10 posts to bb'ing... out of your 5000K posts. Not a very good ratio 10/5000... less the 1/4 of one percent of your posts are related to bb'ing...
