dead hard drive
sup guys. i bought a drive caddy so i could connect my 2.5 inch (laptop drive) to my desktop. anyway i was pluggin it in and out so many times because i had to keep transferring files. anyway i ended up doing this with the power on the connected the pins wrong. i connected it two pins over so two pins werent plugged in. dammit. the caddy sparked and i blew off one of the copper connections on the caddy. anyway my drive doesn't read anymore. it says no operating system found. dammit i need to get my data back without spending big bucks. is there anyway. when i turn my desktop on it doesn't read nor recognize the drive anymroe

wow sounds like you may be outta luck. the only recovery programs i know of work when u delete something in windows. "no os found" isnt a good sign.

There are data recovery services... but they're expensive.

put it into a plastic bag and put the sucker in the freezer for at least 5 hours. See if that does the trick. I've done this a few times at work with dead hdd's and it works, but just make sure you're quick about getting your data off, the hdd might not last long.

I feel your pain Full Instensity!!
i heard about this trick.
this works for mechanical failure as well? My hard drive no longer makes those clicking sounds and when I boot up it says no HD found and when I attach it to another computer, Windows Explorer does not detect it. I think it is FAT32.
