While not actually the worst injury I've ever had, thiso ne was definitely the most excrutiating.
I was drilling out a belly skin on a DC-10. I was wearing safety glasses of course, but somehow a steel splinter made it through. It was awful. Every time I blinked I wanted to scream. A steel splinter had imbedded in the cornea of my eye, deep in the color area.
Here's where it begins to really suck. I was working 3rd shift, so I went to teh hospital late at night. They looked and said it had to be removed (of course). So I had to hold my head still and look straight forward...without blinking...while they took a pair o tweezers and tried to pluck it loose.
It broke off flush. Thier next brilliant idea was to take a sharp pick and try to dig it out. Again, I had to sit perfectly still, not blink, and not move my eyes. They dug around for 15 minutes before giving up.
I asked if I could get some meds or something to chill me out, because by now I was getting nauseous. They told me to man up, so I did.
Then the capper. A drill. I had to literally sit still......stare straight ahead....without flinching or blinking....whikle this HUGE looking drill bit comes closer and closer to my eye....then they turn it on and start drilling. And of course, my eyes are wide open and I'm freaking out.
One hour passes, and I almost pass out.
Now the capper. This asshole is getting pissy with me because I'm getting nauseous and dizzy from the experience. I wanted to kill that prick. ONE FREAKIN VALIUM and I'd have probably been better......but then the jerk says "We can't get it, you have to go to a specialist after sun up and do this all over again".
What freakin choice did I have? I had a splinter of steel in my eyeball and it wasn't going anywhere. So I did, and this time the chick went straight to the drill, 30 seconds later she was done.
I swear I wanted to nuke that freakin hospital.
But anyway, I've had the trashed knees, more stitches than Frankenstien, knife wounds, bones and the whole bit...but that one took the cake for me. Never again.

had my share of injuries including 3 surgeries in the last 2.5 years (today is 8 weeks since my acl/meniscus repair from rugby), but everyone likes hearing about my houseboats injury. houseboats is is every memorial day weekend when kids from a bunch of colleges around all go to a lake and get wasted for the entire weekend. just a few hours into the first evening i was walking on the shore and stepped on a stick and it ended up going through my shoe, 2 inches into my foot and breaking off. we washed it off with tequila and i stayed and drank the whole weekend. the podiatrist i saw when i got back said the piece of wood he pulled out was the biggest of anything he had ever gotten from anyone. if i wanst on prednisone for some poison oak, my foot would have swelled to the size of a softball. couldnt walk and had to pack the tender hole on the bottom of my foot for weeks. but on the bright side, i missed a midterm in a class i was failing and was allowed to drop it right before the final.
