No I don't think we are screwed at all. If the TREE HUGERS would wake up & realize what world we are living in I ti=hink we would be just fine. There are enough un-taped oil reserves within US territory (mostly in the Gulf of Mexico & Alaska) to replace 74% of all imported oil for the next 180 years. However restrictions due to liberal legislation restricts the production of these reseves. It would cost over $100 dollars a barrel to tap these reserves as opposed to the $57 dollars a barrel to purchase this oil from overseas.

Hopefully this tragedy today will wake some of these hypocrites driving there cars & heating there homes with fuel oil to the fact that major upgrades are needed to are refining facilities within the US.

Looser regulation on oil production & oil exploration is the ONLY real hope we have of some economic relief. UNLESS YOU WANT TO RIDE AROUND ON AN EXTRMELY FLAMMABLE HYDROGEN CELL FUEL CAR.

I'll tell you what I think Bush and his friends are trying to do (his friends include the arab oil producers) They raise the prices in his first term. Then when it comes time for him to be re-elected they go down again. So now that he has a "mandate" and is re-elected the prices are slowly rising again, with no end in site.

So basicly they are setting us up, the armerican consumers, to get used to these high gas prices. We are gonna scream and moan as the prices inch higher and higher then when they drop it down to 2$+ a gallon they hope we will say "Omg thank you! Only 2$!!" which is total crap. 2$ a gallon with todays fuel economy, in a society that basicly requires you to own a car, combined with increasing commute times is INSANE.

They could make fuel from Corn and Soybeans that could run todays cars with a little modification. So instead of the Goverment subsidising our farms not to plant some crops and watching them go broke. Why not help them out and do everyone in American a favor and get us away from fossil fuel partialy atleast.

actually we can. the problem is if we were to convert all our cropland in the united states to fuel production, we still wouldn't be able to replace gasoline given our current (extremly wasteful) fuel demands. even though peeps think that ethanol fuel is somehow better for the environment because it comes from corn, it's not. corn is very hard on the soil and takes alot of nutrients to grow. converting corn to useable alcohol isn't that efficient either. by far the best current source of energy is oil, although i've seen some promising alternatives on "speed racer."

i say might as well use it 'till it runs out- then w and his saudi buddies can bite my (at that point dead) chunk and let the hydrogen boys move in (although the gas corporations will prolly control that industry too when it finally happens).

they could make a water cell car that uses the reverse of the same process. the only reason they're pushing for hydrogen for nexgen cars is so the fuel companies can charge us for it, the sleazy ****s.

I JUST LOVE HOW ALL YOU CONSPIRACY THEORIST GUYS THROW AROUND THE WORD "THEY'.

The first thing that YOU should do is figure out who "they" is. No such technology exists. Do you actually believe this garbage? If it did do you really think they could keep it hidden. Don't you believe that everyone would love to eliviate our dependence on Crude oil?

they = companies that are currently working on hydrogen fuel cell automobiles. they have decided to to hydrogen cells instead of water because water is abundant and free in most of the areas with the greatest energy needs.

in iceland right now the government is commited to converting the fuel economy over to water cell technology over the next 100 years. in america the focus is on hydrogen cells.

so shut it ya hoser bocaron you're the one who believes that there's enough fuel in alaska to meet our energy needs for 180 years- a figure no reputable geologist would claim even about the saudi oil fields.

ps hydrogen cars flammable... oooooooo i'm scared what do you think a gasoline-powered car is ya smelly puto?

    1. You still have not explained how water cell cars could possibly work. PS THEY DO NOT WORK!
    2. Yea Iceland is in the forefront of ALL ACIENTIFIC
    DISCOVERIES!!
    3. I said that there is enough untaped crude in THE GULF OF MEXICO & ALASKO FOR THE NEXT 180 YEARS. (caps in case you have bad vision)4. Any idiot knows that gasonline is also flammable. DOES THE IDIOT THAT THIS POST IS RESPONDING TO REALIZE THAT HYDROGEN AT THE LEVELS REQUIRED TO PRODUCE ENOUGH POWER TO MAKE A VEHICLE MOBILE IS FLAMABLE UPON CONTACT WITH THE AIR THAT FLOATS AROUND IN THE ATMOSPHERE?
Plain & simple English definition= if there is a leak there will be an explosion as powerful as 32 sticks of TNT.

I REALIZE THAT IN THE PERFECT FAIRYTELL NEVERLAND THAT YOU LIVE IN NONE OF THIS IS RELEVANT, HOWEVER THE REST OF US WOULD PREFER NOT TO STRAP OUR ASS TO AN ACME ROCKET LIKE THE LOONEY TUNES COYOTE.

we have different fuel sources, but why would the government promote them when they can make a ****load off gas right now the way it is? the technology has been around for many years. its all about money. btw, i get free gas, dad is a roadcommissioner so i fill up from the tank outside anytime i want :P

The government would TAX ANY fuel source. Oil, hydrogen, water, propane, solar, whatever. They will get their's. So don't worry about them. They don't like cigarettes, however they get their fair share. In this case we can not sit back & blame the Government. It is up to us to rise up & have a sound discussion on how to improve our situation.

ummm why do you think the governemnt is talking about taxing by the mile you drive instead of filling up at the tank? because of electric cars, cause they cant make any **** money off hybrids.........there are fuel efficient cars that can keep up with todays fast hotrods, but they wont be produced cause all the rich folk would lose money.

    HHHHHMMMM well
    1. Only liberal states like California & Iliionois have suggested this as far as I am aware. (*If I am mistaken please show me HOW I am mistaken.)
    2. These are the same states that punish people (HIGHER TAXES) for owning cars in the first place.

    1. water is catalytically converted to hydrogen and oxygen using solar electricity. here is the first link i found on the subject.

    2. iceland is the world leader in in geothermal energy use, and for a tiny country does more than it's fair share of scientific work.

    3. untaped?! oh like it hasn't been recorded on vhs or what? the current estimate as far as world petroleum reserves (saudi arabia containing ~70% of them is that they would last 50-100 years at current rates.

    4. sorry i hate to break it to you but h2 does not, in fact, explode upon contact with the air.

sorry did you say owned? darn right beeotch.

    mmkay...

    pwned!!!!!!!

besides i already said gasoline is the best auto fuel source currently used... not exactly ultra left-wing tree-hugging ranting.

i just said us fuel suppliers would rather develop hydrogen cells than water cells because they can then sell hydrogen at service stations. let's face it, no matter what happens internal combustion engines will not be possible to use some time in the relatively near future given our current technology (discounting hanger 18 ultrafuel of course).

The bill was signed last week to begin drilling in the Arctic Natl. Wildlife refuge.......Im not a tree hugger by any means, but thats just retarded. They are gonna absolutely destroy that place, for gas to drop like $.15 a gallon. Big friggin deal.

we are at 770 a gallon for 116 octane. thats man made anyway so the rise or decline in gas prices dont matter anyway for race gas.
