Have never smoked them myself but my dad used to smoke them a lot.
Here in Miami we have many Cuban Exiles who hand manufacture them to order in their shoppes and have heard the quality is excellent.

Here is a subject dear to my heart. I started smoking cigars about 25 years ago when I used to sneak them from my father and by the time I was 16, I smoked them out in the open.
Some of my favorites
Macanudo robusto - all macanudo's are excellent
H. Uppmann - a million different sizes - make sure they are hand made and not machine made
Royal Jamaica - not as good since the hurricane in Jamaica in 1989 they moved the operations to the Dominican Republic, still good though
A. Fuente (every kid smokes these, a bit more expensive than they should be, but good)
I have smoked my share of cubans, overall they are very tasty but IMO, not worth the 10-15 dollar price tag. I'd rather have a 6.00 Macanudo from the Dominican Republic anytime
I need a cigar now.

I smoked some Cubas once when I was in the Carribian. I didn't see the big deal! Maybe it is one of those things that I will like when I am older?

I smoke about 2 cigars a month, and my favorite is Macanudo Hampton Court. Those are the mildest cigars I ever had. They are the ones that come in the white tube. Excellent on a warm summers night, outside with a glass of single malt scotch.

I'm not a huge fan of Cuban cigars. I'd much rather smoke a Dominican, and not just because they're cheaper. I think the US embargo against Cuba definitely adds to the appeal for some people.

The best cigar I have ever had was a Cohiba while I was in San Juan, I bought one for $5 (normally 45 at home) and it was the best burning/smoking/tasting/smelling I have ever had. When I am home in Calgary I like Monte Cristo, Cohiba or a La Aurora.
I don't understand why people say Cuban is better than Dominican or vice versa, you really are paying for a name in most cases. From all the research I have done on cigars most of the top Cuban cigar manufactures that were forced out of Cuba took their seed and went to the Dominican republic where they planted the same see on different soil to produce same quality cigar.

I have heard that the tobacco fields in Cuba have really gone to shit. They are not replacing the nutrients in the soil. The familliar brand names of cuban cigars (Uppmann, montecristo ect) were stolen by Castro and his group after the revolution.
Most of the actual cigar making families moved to the Dominican Republic and they have had 40 years to perfect the craft. Although I think the growing conditions are more ideal in cuba, the Dominicans have really gotten it down.

TheStromba I agree with you too an extent. My favorite cigar's are still cuban, but the quality of DR grown has greatly increased.

My favorite's are still Cubans although I hate that communist piece of shit castro. Nothing better than puffing away and not having to ash until the very end. That's when you can tell it was rolled right.

In Calgary I go to the best walk in humidor cigar shop I have ever been to. He takes exceptional care of his cigars and prices are cheaper than any shop I have been to. I think he relies on relatives living Cuba to ship him cigars as well as high volume orders. my Monte Cristo's are any where from 11 bucks to 25 depending on size. Cohiba are 20 - 45 bucks depending on size. Even with the tax increase they imposed on all tabaco his prices were barely increased.
