How should I go about becoming a personal trainer?
Okay guys, I want to get a job this summer, and had been debating between lifeguarding and becoming a personal trainer...I want to go the personal trainer route. Thinking about doing it as a job on and off. I want to make sure I am properly certified, and have the know how to do the job well. Is there any advice or certification I should go for?

Why, Josh, are you...anxious?
Okay . . . Then without further a-doo, go straight to this link. It's a recent thread that dealt with personal trainer certifications. Look for the two last posts by me - one is an article that I reprinted from CompuServe, and the next post consists of several of my own comments.
Good luck, kimosabe.

Great info TNT. For me ACE would be the way to go. I am working on a grad degree now but the ACE PT cert would be a nice thing to do later on.
I wonder how many people on AR are certified by ACE or another organization in your original thread?

Do you look like you workout and look like you could be a trainer?
Nothing worse than a trainer who appears like an average Joe. Those don't do very well from what I observe. Proof is in YOU, not really a certification.

A couple of the trainers of my gym are slobs who stand outside and smoke cigarretes all day. Then again, they make no money at all.
