Well it depends how much you earn as to how much they tax, its only 50% for some people, and they are unlucky.
What I hate most is that the gov't gets paid from your taxes. I pay taxes, and I also work for the gov. So therefore I pay some of my own wages. So if I see a paycheck for $1500 but they tax $500, I am left with $1000. This means that I paid the government $500 to give me $1000.
That is the biggest bitch of all my friends...

It also depends on how much you make. The more you make the higher tax bracket you're in and the more you get screwed. For example, someone making $45,000 year and someone making $70,000/year take home almost the same paycheck, only differes by a couple grand/year. Isnt that crazy?

Make considerably more than most, gross income, closer to 100k.. But im paying an average of 43% then im taxed EVERYTIME I buy something..

Since there are a myriad of ways to come up with a specific number for taxes I will only offer up a comment on income tax. It's not as bad as you think it is (unless you are neighbor of Red or Vandoo. If you are Vandoo neighbor taxes are the least of your problems, worry more about inviting 300 lb neighbor to bbq where you buy the steak).

Before looking, be sure you undertsand the difference of average and marginal rates. Also, this does not consider any tax credits or tax deductions so it's sort of a worst case ball park figure. Again, this is only income tax, we say nothing of sales, property, and excise taxes.
