no alcohol, no smoking, and no drugs, and bluecross/bluesheild will give you a good plan for around 100 bux a month.

I've heard some good things about Unicare. Dunno anything about 'em.
www.unicare.com
But pretty much, to find a good insurance company, you could call a few doctor offices and find out what they recommend. Some companies won't pay their bills, and some doctors won't take their insurance.
Then again, I've heard of some doctors who give up to a 50% discount if you pay cash up front.
YMMV . . .

Yeah, I know this thread was fer'ever old, but I just hate health insurance! Any other self-employed folks out there with pre-existing conditions (high blood pressure) have any luck? The last quote I got was about $700/month (I was denied insurance from the major company, but "luckily" our government has some program in place to ensure I can get insurance no matter what. At $8400 per year, quite a bargin!)
Just pisses me off that in the "greatest country on earth", I don't think it's "economically feasible" to see a doctor unless some part of my body has fallen off.
Right now I'm thinking about a Heath Savings Plan. Basically, you still pay for everything, but you get a tax break (I'll take 'em where I can get 'em).
