Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated
Been out of touch for a while due to the hurricane. I rode out the storm at work, in Marerro, across the river from the City. I don't know when I will be able to go back home. My house was totally undamaged when I was able to swing by to check it out... I was part of an anti-hijacking escort party for a fuel truck while things were still sort of lawless in the city, and when the truck was safely on its way back across the bridge, I peeled off and detoured by the house, got my guns and a few other valuables, and split. That was about two weeks ago. Things are very peaceful now. A lot of bad guys were killed and the rest are minding their manners. Over here on the westbank, there was practically no looting except at a mall in Gretna. Stores are opening back up, bit by bit, over here. We have power and water. Life is good. I got loads of overtime and got my $2000 from FEMA and all is good except I want to go home. The water is about 80% gone in the city, and there are a lot of lights burning across the river at night now. I will update again when I can.

Darling, are you still in Marerro? I am a refugee from the City, waiting in Westwego for the okay to go back home. Who else is from New Orleans? Oh, and Baron, what EVER did you do to earn that big shiny medal?
Allsaucedup, Lakeview did flood badly, but I think most of the water is gone, now. I live in the French Quarter, and we only got minor flooding except in a three block radius of Canal and Rampart.

Thanks for the welcome back, everyone. Sorry Smak, I don't hug guys... except my son about once avery three years. Guy thing, you know. Allsauced, I heard on the radio a couple days ago that the Army Corps of Engineers said that over 80% of the water had been pumped out. I would imagine that most of that is in the lower 9th ward or N.O. east. The roadblocks are down, say my Nasty Guard contacts, and I am gonna try to slip in and see my house today, get the rotten food out, stuff like that. Anna, I'm not your "darling", and I don't have any medals.
I won't have much time for the board for a couple of weeks, I think. But I will be back post-whoring when I have the time.

AllSauced, parts of Lakeview still have water. The mud and muck are really bad where there is no water. This is as of this morning. I do know that the flooding was pretty bad there. I thought maybe they had it dried up by now but apparently not.
I got all the rotten food out of the house. My neighbor (I live in a double) rode out the storm right there in the house. Some siding was lost on her side. Also two of the trees in the courtyard blew over and one knocked a corner of the next house catty-corner behind us off... I have two dogs now. I didn't have them before the storm. I guess my neighbor adopted them. One is mean as hell and tried to bite me when I was trying to feed him. Good dog, that. If he will bite his new owner, I feel sorry for any burglars. I got all the rotten food out and swept up most of the dried maggots. Puttered around a bit and cleaned up the fridge, then went to Johnny White's for a drink. Ran into some friends and we shared a couple of cuban smokes until time for me to go to work. Famous Door will open tomorrow, and Big Daddy's is going to open as soon as they get some dancers in. Still no power at my house, but the water runs (not fit to drink yet, says the mayor) and the toilet flushes. It was a small act of personal triumph to finally take a big healthy dump in my own shitter.
