3. A wild guess. (The only way I'm S&M myself is "sneakers and make-up," and the make-up is tinted Clearasil for the occasional testosterone zit.)
4. Get me in a room alone and you may find out.
5. The gym I go to has a sling . . . in the steam room.
(I could come up with five more and turn this into a Top 10 list, but the other five probably wouldn't be fit for the board.)

Damn TNT, you aren't any fun to try and give a "hard" time to. You come up with too good of answers too quick! Took all the wind out of my sail before I even had a chance to enjoy giving you a hard time!! Oh well, I'll get ya one of these days!! lol

I love you too BigGunz
You also are my man
TNT you are as hysterical as always.....
TTGB, what a storyI never would have thought you would have been in a gay bar bathroom, you have a lot of guts brother.
Okay folks, I have been trying NOT to respond and just let others take this issue to it's end, because I don't want to be catagorised on the board *just as the token gay guy*.
I do know more about lifting than some, but as AS is the main focus of the board, I am not an expert in that area, as that is relitively new to me.
Thanks everyone for keeping this civil and mature. On so many other boards this would have been a pummeling of gays and their orientation.

I know of some gay guys, at least I think they are gay by the way the talk and use body language but the ones I seen arent in very good shape but they do keep their skin nice and smoooth. When I was in LA, there were alot of gay men and most of them were big buff dudes.

Since I met my current two GFs a little over 3 years ago, I have been exposed to a lot of gay culture and gay behavior. One of my GF is TS, and the other is Lesbian, and they are actually a legally married couple, BTW. My Lesbian GF seldom wants to go anywhere but gay bars, and until recently my TS GF was more comfortable in TS/TG bars, and so I have been around that scene a lot. and have met a lot of gay men in the last 3 years. I have to say that for me, the negative images outnumber the positive ones, but not because a majority are in-your-face types; rather, it is simply because those are the ones that you tend to notice. You notice and remember the lone asshole who can't keep his hands off you until you crush his hand. You really don't notice the 99% who would never dream of doing something like that. My Lesbian has a Deaf Gay male friend (She is Deaf, as well) who just can't restrain himself from slipping inside my guard and giving me a hug. Poor little guy... this guy is such a flamer that even his signing is obviously gay accented, and he is really desperate for some male companionship but I think I have pushed him off me and on his ass about a half dozen times and he doesn't get the message. Then, there are the rest, the overwhelming majority that not only read you as straight and therefore are not interested, but are already quite happily matched up with someone and would not be interested in any case. Then there is the drunken bozo who gets bent out of shape and hostile because you tell him politely that you are not interested, and have not one, but two GF. And so he asks loudly and rudely WTF you doing in this bar, then? And Gay men can be just as ignorant about TS people as anybody. More than once, some bozo who has read my GF as TS has figured that since my GF is TS, that I am interested in men and therefore should be more interested in a REAL man like HIM LOL! The majority that I hardly notice and never bother me just think we three are a little bent but harmless and they just leave us alone. The asshole minority stick in your mind, rather than the decent majority. Whatcha gonna do? Luckily most bars and clubs in New Orleans, particularly the French Quarter, are very tolerant and open, and lately we go to regular straight clubs, the 3 of us, sometimes with a girl toy for our Lesbian to play with, and we get remarkably little friction other than stares from the tourists.

I have no idea what to add to this thread, except the fact that most of the posts are the some of the most intellegent posts I've read on the subject in a long time.
I, too, am a new member (no pun intented), and from what I've seen, I think I will stick around.
Let's lift, no matter what else we like.

Hello Baron,
Sorry to hear that you experience something like that. But trust me, it happens not only to str8 guys but to gays who are either attached or cannot stand the "touching"....
Well I guessed maybe I have not been to gay pubs enough heh....
Maybe I should not go at all, I wonder if I am drunk would I still remember to control my bottled up sexual desires....most likely not...
At least if I spend time in the gym, if i cannot control myself I would just rush to the toilet and do that thing .... ahhaha and most likely I would be exhausted after such a heavy workout
No offense... just a joke!

And no need to feel sorry for my experiences... really, it is usually not such a big deal. I was just kind of illustrating the point that no matter what the venue or environment, it is easier for a straight guy to remember the negative than the positive, because the positive is pretty much benign by definition. If nothing happens, it is good. but of course not noteworthy, BECAUSE nothing happened. If something DID happen, for a straight guy it is generally NOT a good thing. Since something DID happen, it is remembered.

I've never been more confused in my life. Anyway, where are there 24hr gyms in New Orleans BAron??? Whenever I'm there, I work out at Curetons on metairie Rd. Gotta love that place, I'm 6,2" about 220 right now and 3/4 of the guys there are bigger than me. Now That's motivation.

The Club New Orleans
515 toulouse 504 581 2402
I have passed right by it a jillion times cause I just live a few blocks away, but never figured out where the entrance is, so call them. It is advertised as a "Private mens health club". Verbatim from their ad:
"Nude sunbathing on 5th floor tropical sundeck. 30 day gym pass $35, 6 month membership $20
full free weight gym
aerobic machines
Personal trainers
no contracts
low monthly rates
open 24/7
tropical nuce sundeck
great wet area
relaxation rooms"
Not sure if they accept straight members or not. I was thinking about joining but decided to go all out with home gymming instead. Even if it is not gay-only membership, I am thinking it is probably 99% gay and more of a "bathhouse" atmosphere, and that might not be conducive to serious training.
Flex New Orleans
24/7
700 Baronne street 504 598 3539
There is an url listed but I can't read it in the copy of Ambush I picked up. The ad is smudged. I will have to get another Ambush. WTF it is free. Anyway they list their amenities as follows:
Sauna
Steam Room
WEIGHT room
hot tubs
private rooms
lockers
theatre
snack bar
I understand that they do not particularly want straight guys there but maybe you can just say that you aren't, unless you really aren't. Then again, I might be wrong, but it doesn't look like the kind of place I would be comfortable in. I think I would take a chance on Club New Orleans first. Anyway, WTF... 24 hour access to weights? Well, I got that at home.

IMPORTANT Reality Check...
NOTE: This post and the web site referenced contain adult-oriented information. Unfortunately, it is necessary information, posted so none of you take "the road less traveled" without knowing where it leads. Seriously.
If you respond, please keep in mind the Anabolic Review's policy against flaming and against offensive comments involving any group.
____________________________
Gentlemen (and ladies, too), I hate to burst anyone's bubbles here, but if you are straight, I would not advise going to the "gyms" listed by The Baron.
Why? Because they're not gyms. They are gay male bathhouses, which exist for one purpose: for guys to go and have sex with each other.
Think about it . . . When did you ever hear of a general population gym or a straight gym that advertised "great wet areas and private rooms/relaxation rooms?" Not to mention a theatrer? (Clue, kiddies: these "theaters" run nothing but porn flicks. Yes, gay porn flicks.)
Gay bathhouses have always existed, although most of them closed in the early 1980's after AIDS became prevalent. As society got used to the existence of AIDS, the baths began to reopen in major cities, but to cover their asses, they installed some fitness equipment and called it a "gym." The gym, however, remains a very minor part of the baths scene, usually relegated to a small room lost among the other, um, activities tha occur there.
Don't believe me? Then check out the web site for Flex Baths in New Orleans (which contains some nudity) at this link, and correlate the address with the one in The Baron's post. The page for their New Orleans facility advertises, "Convenient lockers: overlooking the wet area where you can see all your buddies showering and more." Oh, and if you happen to want to do anything with your new "buddies," Flex provides free condoms. (Yeah, just like every other "gym.")
Oh, and don't bother taking gym clothes. The standard appparrel at bathhouses (including the gym area) is towels. Only towels.
Got the picture? Now, if you happen to be gay and this is what you are looking for, go for it. (But be very careful - of all types of environments, the spread of AIDS is more prevalent in gay baths than anywhere else.) And if you happen to be straight, have a laugh and forget about this type of place - it is definitely not for you. (Unless, of course, you want your new "buddies" to watch you in the shower . . . among other things.)

Yeah, yeah . . . For the answer to your next question, see my earlier post. And add an item: I know how to do Internet research.
P.S. I won't even ask what "The Roundup" is. Yeeee-hah!

BTW, Roundup is a very strange name for that place. More a TS/TG/CD bar than a gay bar and you will never see a cowboy hat or big belt buckle or leather chest harness there. But the $1 bloody marys from 7:00 AM to noon are worth walking a block and a half from my apt.

If you join the bathhouses though it sounds like the gym would be all yours since the other members are busy!Do you think Drag bars have urinals?

Bingo!!
Gay bathhouses are actually meant for more sex than exercising.
Imagine doing a jog in your towel...woah or doing squats with it, you may not need a threatre for free show heh...
Thus I would never go to a bathhouse for gymming and even if you have homosexual inclination, do not approach those places if you are not mentally prepared to risk your lives.
It is rather uneasy for me to have sex with someone I do not know. ... I rather not take the risk baby...

Drag Queens, Crossdressers, and Transsexuals (M-F pre-op that is) all usually sit to piss, and they use the ladies' room. You will never see them in the men's room, in any venue.

Remember GettinBig's original question for this thread:
" was kind of wondering what others opinions would be of this. I work out in a gym where there just happens to be a a lot of gay men. Is it me or do gay guys take their bodies way more seriously then us straight guys? Why is that?"
I believe this has led to more BBers that are gay or bisexual and into competeing. And because a larger percentage of gay are into BBing for themselves, they are also in larger percentages as competeing BBers.
Also the number of fans of BBing that are gay are higher than the general public. I think it should be fairly obvious as to why that is; BBers are hyper-accentuated males, and project the ideal image of male perfection and what gay men are attracted to.
As for how many of AR's members are gay? Lets just say I have knowledge of a number regulars (more than 10) that have expressed their orentation to me, and all of which with the exception of Freakout, BigGunz and myself are all in the closet. Even more have expressed their bisexuality to me.
It's extremely interesting to have read some of the PM's I have recieved since I joined in mid-January.Thank goodness since BigGunz came out and expressed his partnership with me, these folks have been keeping their desires to themselves.
As for Bill Philips, he is just a money grubbing douchebagLast edited by Canes4Ever; 05-13-2002 at 01:53 PM.

wow. I just recently started going to a new gym in Long Beach, Ca. I'd have to say it's highly gay populated, it's kinda wierd getting the looks. I don't mind- taken as a compliment, but when I see some guys practically drooling, it kinda pisses me off. Do they do that, to get a response to see if I'm into it or what? I just try to walk around looking all hard, but it's tuff to pull off- when you've grown up nicknamed prettyboy. One of my managers at work is gay- he's the fucking greatest guy- I don't consider him a boss- I consider him a great friend. When I first started working there I heard he had a nickname for me- "Thor" so that's kinda my name at the restaurant, people always give me shit about it, I think it's funny. What the hell was I getting at? I had a point, but fucking lost it somehow...damn. Oh well.

The only sentence I could response is my principles: I love bodybuilding, and being a gay has nothing to do with.
I do not in fact touch or attempt any hanky panky with them and most of my buddies could not detect a tinge of gay in me...you could tell when most thought I had a gf...(well I do have very close gfs..)
I believe in giving respect to others if you want to feel the same.

I just was stating that it upsetted me, like how you feel when someone's invading your privacy. Canes, please don't feel like I was attacking you or any other's that are gay on the board- I have gay friends, and am not homophobic in any way. Just want to make that clear.
