Any car insurance agents here? I have a question
I have two cars in my insurance policy and i let one of my cousins borrow a car and he rear ended another car. The damage is minor ($1,200).
1. Will my insurance go up for something minor like that
2. Will they cover it since he was driving(he is NOT excluded from my policy)
3. Is it a better idea to pay the damage on our own?
Thanks for your help in advance BIGWILLLast edited by bigwillster; 05-18-2002 at 01:38 AM.

Well, I'm not too familiar with California insurance procedures, but him being 19 could be a problem. Where I'm from it wouldn't matter having another driver behind the wheel unless they're under 25. Anyone under that age would have to be added to the policy, but that could be different in Cali. I can pretty much bet that your insurance will go up if he was covered. Contact your agent for some advice. It might be worth it to pay the $1200 out of your own pocket.

I think that's a good idea. I gave him a small lecture on being more careful. I remember when i was 19 I was a dare devil. Thanks excess.

I'm from Jersey (obviously) and we have some of the stricyest laws in the country as far as insurance goes:
yes your insurance will go up, it will be covered by you ins company because your car is still insured no matter who is driving it. IMO make him pay the deductable. Not a big deal unless you have points, too bad he couldn't make a deal with the guy to leave the ins co out of the picture cause the guy he hit...his insurance goes up too for the claim. Ahh capitalism
