I don't understand why so much discusion over a word. It's just a word.

Why do people let a word offend them? How weakminded are you? A word will only bother you if you let it, or better, if you let the person who used it.

In my eyes getting mad about a word is the same as getting mad about a cartoon. Grow up.

Man, if people didn't get mad about words, no one would have ever said "the pen is mightier than the sword". You have to get angry over words or well, seesh, in order to piss people off, you'd have to downright do something physically offensive which kinda stinks.

As long as people cry and don't touch people or their property, I don't have a problem with them getting mad over words. :-)

Ha ha ha, i know many of a black person that will wave a confed flag actually. :-) I'm just wondering what part of rural georgia you're from where black people are scarce. Everywhere I go in this state, they're there.

i grew up in north north ga, near the nc border... and i am not lying when i say we had 0black ppl in my town.. but everywhere else ive been in ga, there all over.. thats why i dont get why ppl in the north think all ppl in the south are racist, we have more blacks than they do

I think I'm more mad as a parent than anything else. I can't imagine my son coming home from school and say that his TEACHER called him a "nigga", "nig nog", "coon" or any other racial slur. My son is half-white and I would do the same thing if he had a black teacher that called him a "honky" or a "cracker" or even cussed at him... It's a school!

I totally understand you. As a parent (which I am not yet) you would feel the need to protect your family. And definetaly get mad at those who try to hurt them. I too would get angry, if someone did it to my family.

At the same time, teach your son that he has the same rights as everyone. That no one can bring him down because of his skin colour. Learn him to set goals, and fight for them.

The difference is that black people have a long history of discrimination in the US. Some people (not me) say that the discrimination is still there. The fact of the matter is segregation/organized racism in the US is still fresher than the Holocaust, and no one is trying to forget about that... Not many people are telling the Jews to stop crying. From about 1950 to 1965 black people in the US had to fight for rights that were already there for other races.

The wound is still fresh! Maybe in another 100 years we can all joke about "nigger" and laugh at the United States shady past, but my parents and grandparents and many of my friends were victims of GOVERNMENT APPROVED RACISM. How many white people can say the same thing?

Give it time. Black people will get over this whole "discrimination" thing soon enough...

its in my opinion as someone who was a cop, in a black community, that black ppl segregate themselves. you see it all the time in college, schools and so on, white ppl are harassed and so on, i didnt sit or hang out with many groups of black ppl in college, bc they can openly talk shit, but if u utter one word to them, u get jumped.. this isnt all black ppl, but its what ive seen, same thing with a community... its all black, whites or mexicans wont move into it...

All races segregate themselves to a certain extent. If you have ever been to Seattle then all I have to say is Asians and Russians. I read something on it before, I wish I could remember what the name of the book was.

It's the same thing with any racial group. People tend to surround themselves with what they're familiar with. I think doing so is bad. I've had Black people tell me they feel afraid in a room full of Whites. And Whites have told me they're afraid in a room full of Blacks. I ask why. They have no legitimate reason. I'm comfortable around any race. Doesn't bother me.

Don't mind carlos, he's a New Yorker which well, personally I think the rest of the world should upgrade to the New York mindset no matter how liberal it is. He doesn't see races, race doesn't matter to him. They've broken it down into ethnicities and in that way, you can feel comfortable around any ethnicity as you would in that particular groups home country.

When you pull the race card, you lump various groups of people into a group based off the color of their skin which is awful, awful, awful. People from barbados and the dominican republic are not the same. They don't even speak the same language. Just because the majority of them are black doesn't mean you can lump them this way.

Now ethnicities, when you get past that which is relatively simple, you'll realize that all people are the same despite outward appearances. Maybe then, and only then, will we stop getting all upset and segregating ourselves and being fearful of our own species because its another color.

We are the only animal species that does this. Maybe being a higher order species brings a certain level of stupidity with it.
