Anyone know anything about ships ... surviving waves
I'm planning a transatlantic cruise, from England to New York. Something I always wanted to do, cross the Atlantic Ocean on a ship, so close to the water I can smell it.
I just saw these pics, and to be frankly, they kind of scared me a litle bit. You would think with all the technology they could forecast bad weather and somehow avoid it.
Can a ship easily go through bad weather?

Holy Sheepdip. There is no freaking way I would want to be anywhere near that boat. You are not getting me on a cruise ship. If you do this, the beginning of summer would be a good time, like June.....

I say go for it, I love the open ocean personally and feel really good when I'm out there. accidents happen everywhere, cars, boats, planes, walking... just go for it you'll be disappointed if you dont.

Buy Deep Water scuba gear and a waterproof (lol, that sounds dumb i know) homing-beacon - let local & S&R your routes, time of arrival & departure.
If the ship starts sinking and you cant get to your evacuation raft, you can suit up and wait for the best (or be a strong swimmer).
Or, you could pull a Decadball and instead just invest in a gun (w/supple amounts of ammo) & blocs of C4, planting them on the remaining evacuation craft, and shooting the people on his own, so as to guarntee his immediate safety, and save him from a sufficent trial due to lack of witnesses... ... you a sick.. sick ombrea' deca

Don't be a puss and go! Do be a puss and take appropriate dramamine. That picture cool, being at sea, storming, rolling, tossing about...thats experiencing the ocean. Been there and done that....many times. Had wave breaking over the bow, half of the ship submerged for a few seconds...really cool!!
Take pics...plus if you act cool, any scared chics on there will need your comfort and strong safe prescense.

go for it. Its only the occasionaly freak wave that could ever sink one of those boats and those waves are very rare.

That picture is fake. My father owns a 79ft commercial fishing vessel that has been out through 15-25ft seas and yea it rocks back and foward and you get sea sick, but this is a smallll boat. What you're talking about is something that is 400ft+ the only way it would sink is if the vessel was severely damaged and even then it could probably make it home. As far as it capsizing you would need a tsunami Like wave to knock that shit over.
So you get an idea of what my dads boat is like it was slightly larger than the one in the perfect storm. and that boat capsizing would not happen either.

a tsunami on open seas would not even be noticed.
but there are freak waves that form randomly that can take down pretty big ships without warning.

Not long ago a 70' wave struck a cruise ship breaking windows and throwing the furniature overboard. That's freaking scary. It hit the upper most rooms in the ship which is a freaking big wave.

that pic isnt real man...odds are slim and i really wouldnt worry bout it......i'd worry more about gas cavaties opening under the water than waves coming over
