Not at all. Granted I have a full time job and b-tend and wait on the side, but I've made up to $800 for one night of working a party bartending. All under the table. You can't beat that!! Plus as a bartender, you everyone's best friend - especially after they've had a few drinks.

I always get confused about tipping the people that fill gas in the cars. In NJ, I usually give them 1 or 2 dollars. Although I was told not to tip at all.

This is getting worse, do I tip the airline pilot for flying me over!.

    I dont know.

I tip the barbers the most. A haircut here is about 12 dollars, I give them 20 dollars. Because this way, when I need a haircut, they put me in front of the appointment line. And my haircuts are always perfect.

    Bouncer,

All in all it's customary here to tip at restaurants, bars, and yes cab drivers - especially in nyc. But if you feel like you got crap-ass service, then don't tip. Just don't ever ask a cabby how much you should tip - he'll tell you some ridiculous amount like $40 for a 10 min ride - happened to an Irish client of mine in Chicago.

It is their job and in some cases profession to perform there duties, tipping is bull$hit, when's the last time you tipped a cop for performing a drug bust? why the fvck would i tip a waiter

In the Doorman bussiness, i dont accept tips - I do however, collect "a$$hole tax" (if i have to $hit kick someone, than whatever money they have will be my "tip" )

LMAO...that is classic. You are right - a server takes food from point A to point B, but if they do it with a great attitude and make your experience better...I say tip'em. In Canada the general rule is 15%...I usually go with 20%. If the service is excellent...25% or more. If the service is crap...no tip.

We tip no one here in Ireland so could someone explain why I've to tip, when its expected etc..

I'll be there from this Thursday.
i worked as a waiter/ bar tender in an irish style place for 3 years..
they dont tip over there so usualy when people bring family over here they are like wtf why are you tipping him so much...but the waiters over there make way more an hour than over here i believe in ny the minimum wage is $3.30 an hour for a waiter. i have heard they are starting in ireland to change it over like its done here.

its funny though where ever you go around the US they tip differently i know down south they dont tip as much as we do up here(well most places down there) i usually tip about 25% on average...the basic rule of thumb is like double the tax witch in ny is like 16% but the more fancy the place the higher the tip should be IMHO
