in the movie wallace was some highlander with a kilt and a claymoor and maximus would have whupped him but in real life he was an anglo-normal nobleman who would have superior armor and weaponry and would probably slice maximus' legs or sword wrist and then run him through.

It's a trick question. The answer is Chuck Norris. He'd suprise everyone by jumping out of the crowd, and round-house kicking both Wallace and Maximus.

William Wallace was over 6'6, and is said to have weighed close to 250 lbs which in the 11th century was unheard of. He wielded a 6 foot long sword across his back and carried a 100lb shield, imagine seeing this guy in battle. Total bad-ass

great thought!! No one guy was more bad-ass then the other... just that Maximus had more training/experience.

gladiator combat was very highly stylized. very much like taller boxer vs. shorter brawler in boxing, it was all about interesting matchups. maximus in the film was represented as a secutor, which is a gladiator who carried a large rectagular shiled, a short sword, wore a full helmet, and would usually have armor on his sword hand and maybe protectors on his shins.

a norman nobleman from wallace's time would probably wear mail and a helmet, a round shield, a long sword capable of thrusting or cutting (and be moreresistantto breaking), and a spear. he would better reach by far, both better cutting and stabbing options, bettor armor, and better movility, not to mention a friggin horse.
