Free weight or bar?
Just curious to see how many dumbbell lovers like myself sure out there. I can count the number of times I benched on 2 hands. I do mostly all my body parts with free weights. I feel that stabilizer muscles are very important, and I feel I can work that body part more efficiently. Am I missing something from benching and using bars in general?

Both evoke the involvement of secondary stabilising muscles.
The Barbell may cause the utilisation of different muscles.. or stress them through a unique path.
Thus i think the best method is to use both barbell and dumbbells

Too me theres a difference between a long bar, like an ez bar as apposed to dumbell(free weights). dumbells(one hand) bar(2 hands).

I use one for a month at a time, then I switch to the other. Cleans are really weird using dumbells though. Tried it once. Didn't feel the same, stick to BB cleans.

Barbell work is most deffinitly free weight... you are moving the load through your natural curve without any opposing resistance during the concentric or eccentric phase (like chains on a machine - or even bands).
The biggest difference between barbell and dumbell is the total load you can impose on the muscles. A barbell allows for a more compound and heavier load... while the dumbells force you to do more stabilizing and iso lateral work. both are of benefit. Barbell work should usually be done first because the loads can be so heavy.

with dumbells u can isolate better. bar will be more of a compound movement.
