My engine blew cause of toyota!
Sat i took my car to toyota to get the timing belt and sepentine belt replaced. Total was $370. 2days later As i was driving to work My timing belt broke. Hard the car towed to toyota, sat there for an hour they told me that a bolt on the tensioner came off and that they would fix it. THey gave me a loner camry and said they would call in a hour. 4 hours later they call and said they have good and bad news. The bad is when the bolt came off it threw the timing belt off, which broke all the rods in the engine. The good is they are getting me a another engine with 18,000 miles on it from a 2001 lexus gs 300. Should i be weary or happy? Oh yea i have a 00 gs 300

if they are replacing the engine, you should be happy. im guessing you have more than a few miles on your car if its a 2000.

there should be a serial number on the engine....do a search on it...sounds fishy...i go by the rule, if it sounds to good to be true, it is... think about it, why would they have an engine with 18k on it. something prob got ****ed up with that one and there flippin it to u...they will fix ur engine and flip it to someone else.. a fixed engine is never the same...honestly i would make a shit storm in there and demand a new engine cause they ****ed it up...

yeah i agree with luca, why would they just have an engine with 18k sitting around? I would find out where that engine came from. I would also demand a warranty on your new engine incase something happens with it.
I used to own a gmc sonoma and i took it to my mechanic for my routinely 3000 mile service but the dumb fuk forgot to tighten the lug nuts on the front right tire. i was driving down a hill and saw a tire rolling in front of me, i thought wtf? then i realized it was my tire. I ended up wrecking in a ditch fuking everything from my axel to my rotors up. He replaced it all for free.

i had my seat belt on and was fine, he's always treated me good and given me loaners for free when i need them
ive taken my vehicle to him hundreds of times to get fixed and this was the only screw up that i had...im not one to hold a grudge

if its a real, it's a good deal. I'd take a lexus engine or a toyota engine any day. Still check it out.
This is exactly why I learned to do all my own car work

What year is your car?
How meny miles did you have on the motor.
No you do not wonmt a lexus motor. It will kill the value of yout car.
I was a Servace manager at toyota. If you play your cards right you will get a brand new motor.

im surprised to hear that. my mom had a toyota pick up and the body rusted away before the motor went bad. it was an 82 and when she sold it it had 198,000.00 miles on it. it was a strong 4 cylinder. the guy who bought it is still driving it as a scrap truck. he replaced the bed but i still see it now and then. i dont knock toyota at all. 82 to 06 and still going? thats pretty f'n good.

Well i had 83,000 on my car. I called toyota to find out about the motor, They said they will have the vin number by wednesday so i can get a carfax report. They more than likely the car it is coming from was a wreck. The warranty on it will be 6 months, Iasked them to put a new timing belt , do oil change, and a compression check . They said they would do that. I am wondering if i should go get a lawyer or not?

A lawyer is cheap insurance so you'll be coverd should anything happen to the new motor. Toyota's rep is on the line. There are evil shops out there, but this is a dealership, so they have thier rep on the line to. That engine still has most of the 5 year/ 50,000 mile warrenty on it. Six months is not enough. They are offering you the new engine as a trade off on speed. If you don't care about how fast they can get it back to you, they could rebuild your original engine. If you do that, insist on seeing and keeping the original broken parts. That way you know they aren't trying to reuse any iffy parts.

In any case, I would demand a significant discount on a new vehicle purchase in the futere, make sure that is a legal document.Last edited by Hard Head; 03-28-2006 at 03:02 PM.

call toyota customer service, tell them what happened, give them the store ID #. Then you will probably get a brand new engine.

BUt where will they get a brand new engine for a 2000 lexus gs. They changed the body style on my car last year. What i think i will do is let them put the engine in get my new belt and all that shit, then i will take the car to my mechanic and let him check it out. If the engine turns out to be trash then i will get a lawyer involved and call toyota. They are trying to do the right thing. IF the engine turns out to br good then i am getting a damn near new engine. I will make sure i get all my paper work from them just incas they try to screw me.

im gonna call cus service but it will be after the motor is in. My plan is to try to get a 2 year warranty on the motor. Then if the motor does f up i will be covered but i will then get a lawyer and try to sue for a new car. Im not gonna say anything now while they have my vehicle. i dont need them getting pissed off while my car is there
