FYI some people mask their ip address and I beleive that on some providers, you ip address changes each time you log on.

That does a trace of up to 30 hops to an IP or domain - can you explain exactly what the "trace" and "hops" mean...

It used to measure latency on a network. So you will see how may hops or routers are in between you and your destination. But you will get host information back when it reaches the destination. I then use a "whois" tool to see the contact information that is associated with that addy.

There is a program called Visual Route that does all this in one step and is very useful.

theres programs that will sniff, rip, and change any ip address. Theres other programs that will attach trojans through your ip and crack your firewall. Theres a tool to do almost everything on the net, and when theres a need for a new tool you can always depend on a hacker to make it and a cracker to abuse the shit out of it. hackers arent bad encase you didnt know, they invented the internet.

A hacker used to be a term for the respected programmer that could bleed a system for all it's productivity and create/modify effective programs... but the media turned it into a naughty word referring to someone who programs malicious code...
