Children don't have the capacity to deal with a loss like adults do but it is a part of life we all have to deal with and you have to explain this to them and try your best to console them. It will be hard but its best to tell them the truth and let them handle it however they will.

it is a terrible thing,i have a big soft spot for all animals, more than i do for people.my fam had to put one of our cats down because she had a tumor, i cried like a baby.i would explain the situation to the kids, they may not comprehend it completely but i think it is better than making up a story nd sugar coating it. death is a part of the cycle of life,

Losing a pet is like losing a family member. We had to have my dog put to sleep recently because she had neurological damage in her spine. She could no longer control her back legs, and she couldn't control her bowel movements. We tried just about everything to help her, but it was apparent that nothing could help her. So finally the day came when we had her put to sleep. I've never cried so much in my life. When she died, apart of me died too. But in a way, this taught me to not take life for granted. It made me realize that the loved ones in my life aren't gonna be there for me forever. Typing this out is making me teary eyed, so I think I'm gonna quit.
