Straight talk
For those of you who do not visit the Political Forum....
Right on, Andy Rooney!
What Andy Rooney said on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back:
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except
numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment
Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can
kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you
from driving to the ball game.
I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there
are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is
an opinion.
I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different,
weird, or tick me off.
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black , in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of
Probability.
I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a
newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if
you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!
My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries
you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.
I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you
threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word
"freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are
qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in
wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over
here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their
interpretations.
I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.
I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That
doesn't stop you from watching them.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue
to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system
that's better, and put your name on the building.
It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a
parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"
I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't
pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not
a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be
"African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else.
And if you don't like my point of view, tough...
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having "In God We Trust" on our money and having "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to shut up.
HELL YES!!!!

that was one hell of a speech! i agreed with everything right there, made me feel proud that someone has finally had the platform to express these views. and, being a pro wrestler, i very much appreciate the part about TV and movies also being fake and scripted, but nobody rips on that

some points were excellent .... some were bad ..... either way thats a very opinionated piece that i found quite interesting

Some good points..
but from what i have seen..
there are a lot of people out there, that treat minorities as second citizens also.
I've seen people dismiss good ideas brought by minorities cause they automatically assume they're no one of importance, and are dumb.
I've seen people disrespect minorities, because they think minorities are here to be taken advantage of and slave away.
I personally believe his 1st and 3rd point contradict each other also.
He doesnt want to separate by races, but he wants to separate by sex ?????

Quite interesting. He sure is a passionate person. I've seen him in interviews, and he looks like he's ready to explode or have a heart attack. He just gets so excited about everything he talks about.

Correct me if i'm wrong but blacks in America always have the same rights as whites in regards to getting a good education? Why i didn't know this!
Also correct me if i'm wrong but black women we're always allowed into the miss America pageant?
Hmmm the U.N.C.F which is supposed to help minorities who would like to receive better education, which in most cases they cannot afford, is a 'bad' thing? Who was doing it before? Then again by posting and agreeing with this garbage, I guess you would prefer blacks who would like to better themselves to just live of welfare.
Jet mag was made to show positive black role models to the black community when they was no outlet to do so, by showing under privileged black people other blacks who had 'made it' it gave them hope and encouragement to do the same. To anyone no matter who you are that should be a good thing. Like i said before, anyone who agrees with this obviously is somewhat racist.
Oh the old 'if there was a W.E.T can you imagine what they would say?' BET was another entity that was created to highlight issues that mattered to the black community, when there was none. Yeah, that's soooo racist!
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except
numbers.

the shit about races are just dumb, were all the same color underneath so people should leave it as that, so what if there is a b.e.t its not racist at all, now making a white entertainment television show to spite b.e.t now that would be racist, and you knwo what im not even going to get into this dumb arguement lol

Andy Rooney
Claim: Commentator Andy Rooney explains his political views.
Status: False.
Origins: Curmudgeonly 60 Minutes commentator Andy Rooney may have delivered a vituperative essay on French politics in 2003, but this piece elaborating on his own politics is not his creation. The text quoted above is too reactionary even for the acerbic Rooney, and the language used doesn't sound like him. ("Shoot your sorry ass" just isn't the kind of phrase Andy Rooney employs on television.) Just to be thorough, we checked the transcripts of all of Andy Rooney's 60 Minutes pieces from the last ten years, and nothing like this item turned up.
Moreover, Andy Rooney himself denied it in 2003, saying:
About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet.
Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation.
Mr. Rooney disclaimed the above-quoted piece again in his 60 Minutes segment of 23 October 2005, saying of it:
There's a collection of racist and sexist remarks on the Internet under a picture of me with the caption ‘ANDY ROONEY SAID ON 60 MINUTES.’ If I could find the person who did write it using my name I would sue him.
The final two items on the list are probably a good tipoff that either this collection was written (by an as-yet unidentified author) as a parody of the "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney" spots on 60 Minutes, or someone appended Andy Rooney's name to an unattributed piece because it "seemed like something he would say." Either way, whoever created this version appears to have lifted some parts from an earlier piece known as "Yes, I Guess I am A BAD American" and falsely credited to comedian George Carlin.Last edited by Carlos_E; 05-06-2006 at 08:13 PM.

Yep, I've seen other essays attributed to famous people posted on this board, but found out later that they denied any connection to the BS. Actually, I think I checked this very same essay and found it to be a line of crap about a year or so ago.
Tsk tsk tsk . . . must be a simple life for the simple folks who never question the stuff they read or hear . . .

You attributed the comments to a famous celebrity to give the remarks extra weight. Well, your supposed source disavows the comments because they're dumb. You may as well have announced to the world that a famous celebrity that you respect considers your opinions small minded and racist.
In fact, as Mr. Rooney has stated,
"There's a collection of racist and sexist remarks on the Internet under a picture of me with the caption ‘ANDY ROONEY SAID ON 60 MINUTES.’ If I could find the person who did write it using my name I would sue him."
Who knows, maybe he'll find out who attributed those comments to him on this forum, and you'll hear from his lawyers.

So what if Andy Rooney did not say this. The point is many people on this thread agree with the statement. What? Because Rooney did not make these statements the statements have less validity?
Hey Carlos...you could save time when responding to posts by just typing "thats racist", or "you're a racist". We all what your standard response to any discussion race you don't agree with is, save time, less time typing, more time at the gym...just trying to help a bro out.
Hey Tock....same goes for you. Just substitue "racist" for "homophobe". Or even better would be to just respond with these words.."the usual".

05-08-2006, 10:27 AM #37
well, who ever wrote this, didnt want to associate his or her name to this so they placed Andy Rooney's instead.
Pretty sad, and I would assume it means they don't really stand by what they wrote.

Even if this wasn't Andy Rooney's words, its still what a lot of Americans believe. Some of the points are logical, like racial profiling happens and sometimes its justified. (I mean, if a convenience store gets held up by a black male, cops aren't going to stop white males.) But its still a racist piece of commentary. Why? Because not one example was of any other racial group but the Black/African-American group. Another fine example of racism hiding in the guise of nationalism.
