I've bought quite a few things off ebay but never jewelry. I would just make sure that the seller has a lot of feedbacks and their rating is 100% or very close to 100.

My aunt bought a Rolex and was ripped off. Also, I put a $10,000 + bid on ebay a few months ago on a product, but did not win. But, because I put that bid in, I think I was targeted for credit fraud. Although I never give my information to anyone, someone purchased ebay gift certificates on my credit card using my paypal account for several hundred dollars. I did not have to pay for it and my bank is checking into it more, but be careful. If you purchase anything of value you are also putting yourself out there as someone with money.
Also, I wanted to purchase a camera a few months ago on ebay. It was a $3,500 digital video camera. I won the bid and sent the money via pay pal. A few days later the guy wrote to me and said, "sorry man, I dont have a camera. I dont know how to return your money so you figure it out." It sucked! Although I got my money, I had to go through the hassle of dealing with paypal. I did get my money back, but lost faith in buying anything of value this way again.

You can go to pay pal; log in, and stop payment on anything for up to 45 days. I have done it when things take to long. Like over a month when they
promise Priority Mail. Later they arrived all I did way go to pay pal and release funds. I have bot over 200 things from e-bay. Lately you just don't know who you are dealing with. There are all kinds of hound dogs over there.

I bought a ruby ring in 14K for $4 on ebay... I gave it to my coworker's daughter... it was from a guy who's girl cheated on him and he wanted to get rid of it. It was auth... but for that cost who cares.
I'd save the engagement goodies for in-store only.

i have bought diamonds off ebay there are some good sellers there and some good deals just make sure your stones are gia or egl certified theres alot of other certifications however these are not respected and often will have inflated appraised values.
dont buy from anyone that does not have a return policy or lots and lots of feedback history.

I've bought tons of items off ebay, but I made a bid on a Tiffany bracelet and the entire thing was a hoax. Luckily I never sent the money. Definitely look over the buyer reviews and their feedback % - these are the best indicators of the quality of their items.

I thought about buying a ring off of ebay, but decided to check out stores instead. I found my gf's engagement ring at a jewelery store, and was glad that I bought it there. Although it cost alittle more, the quality and clarity were much better. I'd definately buy it in a jewelery store. Sometimes their sales and financing for jewelery are really good!
