Can someone critique my first trance song?!?!

I've been using Reason for a little over a year now and I've started about 40 songs but this is my first finished one. If you don't like melodic trance please dont say you dont like the song just because you dont like trance, but i do value honesty so thats all i ask for.
Also I'd like to say if ive had an attitude with anyone on this board i apologize, finals at school were killing me as well as other personal bs. BUt im back now and a lot less stressed out.
Back to the song, its a remix of Fort Minor's - Where'd you Go. When i first heard the song i thought it was really sad, and it was also dedicated to a murdered 17 yr old girl. I noticed it was mostly the vocals, so I left the vocals out and tried to give it not so much a happy vibe but just a more enlightening one. So go now!!! Listen!!!

I don't like melodic trance...but i have heard my share of it. Nicely done. Base could be a bit more deep (not loud) but other than that... i liked.

I listen to Trance, House, Electronica, Techno, Drum & Bass, etc....
and honestly.....I had to turn it off after 1 1/2 minutes. It is way too drawn out in some sections. It's sounds like it is leading up to something explosive but it just never happens. I do like some of the beats but I am into more horns and shit! IMO!

I'm a big fan of trance.

The beats sound good. Was a little bored w/ it, but prob just b/c of the song not your remix. Agree w/ diamonds about leading up to something but doesn't happen.

Yea man, don't let my review get you down bro. It is hard to critique because there are so many different types of music that can fall into this genre. It isn't that it was horrible....just not what I like to listen too. All that matters is if YOU like it, then it is the best sh!t ever!!!

thanks man /\ /\ i actually never even intended on remixing that song, im really into a different type of trance, my second song is like half way done, a totally different style of trance that i think may appeal to a lot more people. cause that song i remixed is too melodic to really dance or lift to, but my next song has much more sharp and catchy rifts and fx's.. just gonna take a lot more work is all. but hey im psyched about the fact that im actually learning how to use this shit, took A LOT of bs to even semi comprehend what the hell all these synthesizers do.

if there is anyone that knows edm its me. i listen to atleast 1 hour a day of streaming trance/hard house. let me hear this...

nice fade in, in the begining. i think you need to speed up the background beats faster and faster to the "climax" a couple times during the song. maybe its just because i like fast paced stuff

but for your first completed song dude you have the talent to make some awesome stuff. good job.

also psychotron has made a ton of trance songs. im sure he could chime in.

The atmosphere is good, however the bass itself doesnt sound very appealling to me. Doesnt really remind me following the traditional trance setup, doesnt really break down(very much) and doesnt have any really good release. Basically for me its this "hat/snare" on the bass, sounds like a clap almost, really not appealing. other then that its good for a beginer. Was also probably too slow of a beat for trance. Remember all EDM is based around the 8meter measure. with 4 beats to a meter. every 32 beats something should change or it just repeats the previous 32 beat, pay attention to any trance songs and youll know what I mean.

Thanks for the comment!!! But Im not sure what kinda of beat your looking for. What kind of beat do you mean because a heavy beat is usually made with a kick drum but an average kick hits more than once a second in a trance song. I can put the kick in and add a heavy tom (whats in jungle trance) I can do anything (except get signed by sony lol) I can run a loop and add a really heavy beat every ten seconds and a scorching upbeat lead (the hi frequency part of the song) Do you want breaks in the beat or do you want it on a continuous loop? That song didnt really have any sharp leads (mostly pads and fills) but i have a million upbeat leads i can mix with any type of beat ranging from skull smashing kicks and bass or softer more commerical sounding ones.
I dont really care for the money, its something i thoroughly enjoy doing. PM me with EXACTLY what your looking for (the more specific the more you'll like it) and ill convert it to a wav or mp3 file and send it to you. Do you want an intro or for the beat just to start out heavy. Sometimes a hard beat looped for 90 secs can get annoying without a break or two but let me know what your looking for and ill mix up a rough mix and we can take it from there.

the problem with the bass is it wasnt mastered and it lacks some sequencing but I ran it through a compressor and it sounds a million times better now. Its ran on a 16 bar loop, the tempo is 110 bpm with a hit every other bar (a kick 8 bars out of every 16 even at a 110 bpm is a A LOT faster than the standard 4 bars every 16 at a typical 140 bpm which average trance is) i know exactly what you mean though.
but a few quicks facts, i took 5 hours to remix (i usually waste about 24-48 to just lay down the foundation) the original tempo of the song is 90 bpm so if i made it any quicker than 110 the beat would have merged, i had to sacrifice a lot of tradition and the version i submitted is what i call my "impatient version". The variation every 32 to 48 bars was neglected for no real reason. And Im going to do a lot of work still. But hey, good to see someone whos got some deeper insight into trance production. Have you produced any tracks or do you just mix them in Acid Pro or something, just curious..

I do mixing with Ableton and Pioneer CDJ's. I do production with Reason and Cubase, but I will not share any of my productions as I never like them. I strictly stick to the 32 beat rule. and never do anything lower then 130bpm.

this is just MY opinion but i think you need to hear it.
that place tranceaddict.com although i dont know it, appears to have no place where you can submit the actual music files (RNS/RPS) and people can go into your work and see how its made. reasonstation.net is mandatory if you use Reason 3.0 to produce. thousands of artists worldwide submit the actual RNS files and other artists critique individual elements of the song with a much more introspective ability. not to mention its about 10x bigger and although it covers other music genres about 80% of the submitted songs are trance. its has forums, chat, basically everything. if thats where your a member though and you have an established rep or w/e it may be hard to switch but i highly recommend reasonstation, mainly because reason imo is the best production software out there, cubase and others have some slight benifits over reason but NO other software has the sequencing ability reason has. and thats what counts.

I dont have anyone critique my stuff there. I use it for knowledge, and most people will post a .mp3 of the track so others can listen. Ive never posted a source view of my tracks to anyone.
