Someone help me before I smash my laptop!
My laptop has been running progressively slower and slower and overheating and switching itself off more and more frequrently and now it is beyond a fucking joke!
I have deleted all the files and programs I can find that I don't need but still I only have 2.6Gb of free space on my hard drive out of 27Gb.
From reading the windows xp help guide I think I need to run scandisk and defragment, the only trouble is that if I try to run either of these my computer gets itself all worked up and switches itself off! Grrrrrrrrrr
What am I doing wrong guys?
I am at your mercy.....please help me before I smash the muddafukka!

switch teh computer into safe mode and then defrag. Make sure it's plugged into the wall (power) and that you disable all the power saving features like hd turn off after 25 minutes. If that still makes it freeze up then you have either a hd that is seriously in need of a defrag or your hd is going bad.
at that point you'd have to try to reinstall... if that doesn't work for whatever reason...then your hd is toast sorry mate.

i seriously doubt it's temporary files... but lets clean those fawkers out just to be sure.
first... go to tools--> internet options ---> and then click on clear cookies and then delete files. Make sure you check the delete offline content as well.
then go to c: windows\temp adn delete all you can . Some files are going to come back with "can't delete in use". then just skip those particular files and continue.
