How does your mood affect your workout
This questions is more for the members who are working out just to maintain a certain body type and stay healthy......not really the ones who are competing or are trainers because fitness is basically your life.
I feel like when things are going bad in my life and i am depressed (ex. bad breakup) I don't want to work out. It gets really hard to be motivated to look good when I feel so crappy i guess. Now you would think this is when I would really want to motivate myself and do something good for myself and pick myself up off the ground....Shouldn't a hot body be some good motivation?!
However, when things are great in my life and I'm happy and content, THAT'S when I work out.
The catch 22 to this is...when i'm already feeling bad, i'm not working out so my body starts to not look as hot and then I feel even worse.
Just curious to know if anyone else ever goes through the same thing and if so what do you do to motivate yourself?

You have to get to a point and check yourself and get back into the swing of things. I gave myself a time limit to grieve then told myself no matter what I'm eating and going to the gym. The more I ate and worked out the better I felt about myself, end of depression.Muscle Asylum Project Athlete

i hate that, after a breakup u cant eat...i get that shit too and it kills me...some people eat more after a breakup i wish i could do that...but after that shitty feeling i get real motivated to train hard...after my last girl im like i wanna get in such amazing shape/make so much money/drive the nicest car that she wishes she never did me wrong...turn a negative into a positive and let it motivate u...

yeh catch 22 is if you dont work out you get depressed than dont feel like working out, which is why you always must workout no matter what.

If i am goin through a break up I work harder to busy up my life so that I can move on... plus all the girls I date are fat and ugly so it makes it easier to get over... haha

well i've learned that if you can drag yourself into the gym, your mood doesn't affect your workout so much as the opposite. working out will positively affect your mood. at least when you're not overtraining like i do all too often. the biggest issue is draggin yourself into the gym during those low times.
i'm the same as carlos, i lose weight cause of loss of appetite when not working out. then i go into that downward spiral. my weakness is stress. i tend to get stressed out a lot, and stress runs my body down bad.

i agree with you ascendant. i think for me it's the "getting myself to the gym"
that's the hard part.
And for me it's not just about a breakup sometimes....but just when any type of thing isn't going right in your life to bring you down...
I just wish the bad would make me wanna do good with my body instead of running it down when i'm low.

This is common sense stuff lol. It's like taking a shower because you don't like to feel dirty. Moods are what we feel all the time, so when the mood isn't right, you don't have sex. Duh!

When I'm super pissed I can't work out...I need focus to lift well. If I'm thinking about something that pisses me off I focus more on whats pissing me off then the lift I'm doing.

when i am depressed i find it hard to eat properly. I can usually remedy the depression by watching some comedy or lifting videos.. it offers a temporary fix to the solution.
still sometimes that may not work and i may mixx may 2 or 3 meals. The next day ill get pissed at myself for missing them and eat properly.
while working out i try to keep my mind clear. Usually ill get depressed after working out when i have tiem to sit and think while i mix my whey.

I just don't understand why it's so hard sometimes for me to get my butt to the gym when I'm feeling bad when i KNOW the results are going to be positive.
you would think it would be common sense! go to the gym....look better....feel better.
doesn't seem like rocket science yet it's so hard when i'm down! ughh!

I'm going through a marriage breakup at the moment and finding it extremly difficult to focus on training. As such I've went from having a body which grew the attention of both male and females, before someone makes a joke of it I'm not talking sexually. No matter where I went I drew attention, now I feel I look like crap. I'm still big, relatively toned but feel soft and awful.
I let my gym membership run out last month, and have hardly trained martial arts (my second love) in about four months.
But this afternoon I decided to renew the gym membership and keep a gym bag in my car so I didn't have to make an effort when I get home to head off out again.
Thats where I am at the moment. Thanks for reading.

i'm pretty sensitive so I get down alot. But usually those feelings motivate me best in the gym. But then again...I usually call myself names to squeeze out that last rep.
