Bad ink?
OK.. saw a thing on the news this morning... a crap thing.. regarding women who have lower back tattoos and how doctors are refusing to give them epiderals (sp?) during child birth.
Okay, points made:
1) A piece of inked skin may be transferred form the back into the base of the spine. This could happen regardless of being inked or not.
2)That inked skin would be seen as a foreign material to the body, thus possibly creating inflammation, leading to short term or chronic pain and at the worst paralysis. Wouldn't the body have recognized the ink as part of your body by this point?
Also, they interviewed a tattoo artist who was an ill-informed dumbass to begin with and didn't even really know where an epideral went... pisses me off that they didn't present both sides fairly..
When I discussed this with my tattoo artist he told me that back in the day, the ink used to contain a lot of lead, thus leading to problems and concerncs in this area... BUT, nowadays the ink is more safe and friendly for the body and that this should not be a concern. I guess if doctor's think it's a concern there's no convincing them, and I know they would only have your best interests in mind...still, it would have been nice to see both opinions presented a little better and not so biased I guess.
Thoughts?

Huh? That's not really in question.. it's the effect it would have on the mother... and her spine..

If any piece of skin could cause an infection, does it really matter if its inked, and are there any studies on lower back tattood women having epidurals and what pecentage of these women get infections and compared against the results of untattood women that get infections, hard to say if its a real danger or not without research. My ex had all epidurals with all our kids (4)and no problems having said that she has no tattoos on her lowerback.

The media always get's uninformed, ignorant people who have no idea what they are talking about for their story's for examle that Greg Valentino asswipe who was saying that what happened to him was from steroids when in fact it was from synthol and like that MTV peice about steroids called true life, with those three morons talking about nonsense. The media always get's things twisted and never give the public an unbias opinion.
