Have to put my dog down

tomorrow morning. She's a 10 year old black Lab. Been the best damn buddy..swims with me, plays ball, and wants to sleep with me but the wife draws the line there...she can only sleep between us when we're camping.

She has cancer...that fvcking disease....I go between being very sad, and really mad...like psycho angry, wanting to bust up shit. We've known for awhile she had the cancer..inoperable..but it has now gotten to the point she is suffering and in pain...can't hold down food...so it is time to take the big sleep..............I'm gonna miss her...

I'm sorry man. Its a terrible, terrible thing that only dog owners can comprehend. I had to do it a month or so ago. it was awful.I had her creamated & put in an urn so my lady could have it around-she was a WRECK. just try to keep in mind that it is truly best for the suffering animal.. good luck man & again, sorry.

Well bro, I can only imagine how painful that must be. If I had to put down my dog, I might honestly believe that I would have to go down with her. Cancer almost killed me about 4 years ago. If I were in pain and knew that I could not be cured, I would probably be more happy in a better place. As will your dog. Your dog will not forget you. You will not forget your dog. And God will not forget either of you. Trust me man.

    Keep your chin up!

dont know if you gonna put her down yourself.....but i worked for a vet while in high school.......the method for a dog was to inject sodium penethol(sp) IV. they dont feel a thing....just go right to sleep in a split second. hope this helps.

Very sad news. I dread the day this happens to my boy but it is inevitable. All you can do is remember what a lovely fun life you were able to offer the dog and all the joy he bought to you and your family. He will go peacefully to a better place im sure.

Thanks to each of you. I appreciate your comments. Its good to know there are others out there that love their animals like family too. I couldn't put her down myself. Our vet is the greatest guy...caring and understanding. He'll be injecting her in the morning and we will all be with her there in the room. She'll be probably half on my lap as we all sit on the floor with her to say goodbye. Its gonna be a tear fest I know that. Some big tough guy I am huh?

I had to put another Lab of mine down 9 years ago, the same vet did it and the whole family was there. We all just sat around for a few minutes and the vet was talking about this being the best thing and the last way we could show how much we loved her. He also then said something that I have come to believe as well. He said I don't know what your beliefs are about the after life...but I believe there is a heaven, and I believe that for heaven to be heaven, your pets have to be there as well. He told the story of losing his brother a few years before that, and as his brother lie unconscious, drifting away, he suddenly opened his eyes, smiled and said his dogs name, as if he were seeing him, then his brother passed on.

My ole girl will be somewhere she can swim again, and there will be more balls to fetch than you can count, and endless belly rubs. Thanks for listening, and caring...

It doesn't seem right but you are doing the right thing. People want to keep people or pets becouse of there own selfish reasons. But you know she will be in better place, this shows how much you love becouse your putting her needs before your own, I wish you the best brother.

Sorry to hear the sad news. I have 2 dogs myself and when the time comes I will do it but I will get them stuffed. I have gone through a lot of stuff with my mutts and have a strong bond with them. I really have thought about cloning.

    Its done..

My ole girl is gone. The family was with her. She layed down on her side, I l was lying down with her face to face as the vet began to inject her...she gave me one last little lick as we were nose to nose to then she was gone. It was so much harder than I remembered. I cried last night, this morning, and as she was going I lost it...cried like a school girl...couldn't stop. I'm home now and will still lose it...I miss her so much. But she is no longer in pain, and is chasing balls into a lake, ocean, pool, whatever.

Dogs teach us alot about how we should try to be. They love us unconditionaly. Doesn't matter if we're rich, famous, poor, homeless, fat, ugly, it just doesn't matter to them. They see something else in us, and bring that something else out, of most people anyway. They forgive us instantly. They are patient and easily satisfied...just need some attention.

Take time with your pets...this day comes all too soon. And again to each and every one of you that have said some very caring, supportive and helpful things...a big thank you.

Glad to have you share this, trust me, I know how you feel (cujo was a black lab too, a pal no doubt) You had to do it for her not you, always look at it that way Maybe cujo is up their chasing sticks with your dog right now and "dog"(my beagle) is just trying to stay out of the way

I had to do the same thing with my childhood german shepard who was suffering from lymphoma.
He was a big dog (around 120 llbs) so the last thing I remember is the weight of his body on my lap as he passed away, body going limp and last breath.
Even the vet who knew him since he was a puppy cried.

Anyways, 10 years is a nice life for a lab.
You did the best that you could do.
She passed away the only way that she would've wanted it to happen, in her owner/best friends arms.

You just have to move on now and be happy that she is having fun and no longer in pain. Do you have any other pets? I had my beagle about a year longer after cujo so that helped some. I still don't have a dog (been 2 years) I can't deal with having to do that again just yet, but would'nt mind getting another beagle, but I work so much and would have to have mom take care of it at her house while I'm at work and she has health issues. I have taken up raising fish now (less attachment I guess)

Wow man that is terrible. I actually started to cry..I started to visualize when I may have to do the same with my dogs. Im so attached to both of them I dont know what I'd do. As your vet said, I believe she is in a better place.

Teabagger im really, really sorry. I know how you must be feeling man. I've seen many of my pets "go" over the years and it's shit everytime. At the moment I have cat called Ben who I consider my lil boy...christ if anything happened to him I'd be in pieces.

You know, people go on about Heaven and Hell and if there is a afterlife I wanna go where the fishes swim and the birds fly and the cats and dogs run. She's happy where she is right now mate.

very touching my friend. I couldn't be in the room without destroying everything in sight. I know the day will come when I must put the girls down and I'm afraid of the rage and anger that will be unleashed.
