LOL. seriously. How many times can they rewrite the same nonsense over and over again.

My girl gets fitness, women's health, etc.. you name it. They all say the exact same common sense things plagarized from the previous issue. (exercise, stretch, don't deep-fry Snickers and eat them at 3am, etc...)

And don;t even get me started on the bs supplement ads.

Insider tip, some catalogs and magazines cost as much as $8-$10 to print, so they would lose money off subscriptions where they get $1.50-$2 direct. We get free mags all the time at the salon. The more readers, the more they can say how many people read it when they present to an advertiser.

I work in advertising - and get alot of comp magazines.

But i pay for ones i really want if i cant get them for free.

Me too. exotic cars (dupont registery) good shooting mags and fish mags. They are getting pricey if you just run out and get one w/o a subscription.

Not when you have an advertisement on every 3rd page, the advertisers are putting together almost 1/3rd of the content of the magazine!

I'm not real verse, tell me what type of costs go into a magazine besides printing, editing, writing, and marketing?

I publish several magazines, one being a high gloss 5.5" x 8.5" dining and entertainment guide.

Print cost is absolutely rediculous. It's so extreme that the only way most companies can afford to keep printing them is through advertising sales. Fortunately for the fitness magazines, Supplement manufacturers have deep pockets. The rest of us small guys aren't fortunate enough to have such a large and well-funded client base.

waste disposal
city, state and federal taxes
transportation
fleet maintentance
lease payments
utilities
insurance
office supplies
janitorial supplies
bathroom supplies
upkeep of leased location (most commercial landlords don't pay for ac repairs and other repairs)
bank & credit card fees
attorney fees

And a few hundred other things that always pop up

It's all the same

the business's only product is that magazine, it all comes out of those profits. Kind of reminds me of the girls at my body jewelry store when ever I get a new order and only knock a few bucks off for employees. They always say " you only paid $2.75 for that belly ring, why can't I pay that?" They never think about the waste factor (xyz of a certain # of jewelry will break and get tossed) and the huge expenses I paid before I ordered them.

I was talking more the figures to create the magazine.

Distribution of the magazine has nothing to do with its creation. Fossil fuels cost money to mine indpendent of the sales of gasoline, even though (obviously) gasoline sales PAY for the mining of oil. But whatever we are splicing hairs.
