I have the TomTom Go 300. I think a newer model has surpassed that one though. They're brilliant bits of kit! I do a lot of miles and I find mine very useful. Easy to use and easy to set up.

Was it something you could install in your car yourself? Or do i need to get it professionally installed?

no install. they are hand held, or they also have mounts you can put on your dash or console. I just prop mine up on the console and it good to go.

Well depends on what you want - I had a Magellan 360, Magellan 800 and I also have an Dell Axim x51v with Dell Bluetooth GPS - and I prefer the Dell one over my magellan just because it's a pocket pc. It's not as loud as the magellan though, but I don't mind that.

The magellan is real simple gixxer - you just turn it on and that's it and then enter your destination - I can't comment on the tom tom cause i never had one, but i have read a few bad reviews on tom tom.

what i would suggest if you don't have a store you can go try them out at is try to order it from somewhere that has a good return policy, buy it and try it out for a while and if you don't like it, keep exchanging it till you find something that you like

WHat kind of price range do these gadgets run in? I have been thinking of getting myself one. I unfortunately, have a horrible sense of direction.

I would get a TomTom 350 or better... but i have a 350... not sure of the number but it is mem chip not hard drive based...

and i know you might think of getting a unmountable gps system as cheap but it is REALLY REALLY helpful!

i mean you can take that SOB all over the place... they are wonderful
