As far as military speaking, no doubt General George Smith Patton, Jr.
He was one hell of a guy

Hitler and Napolean where both great commanders, they both lost their shit due to the same attack. Though Hitler's mental decline was significant by the time he decided they should keep attacking russia.
Hannibal wasn't really that great, he just managed to get the best of Rome on a few occasions. Sun-Tzu comes to mind as best of all time.

saddam or bin laden....not trying to piss anybody off.
I hate them, but to plan an attack like they did, that was pretty damn slick.
Another guy, Castro...
I hate them all though.

Russell Crowe! LOL Thats a good one. Maximus was a kick ass dude in Gladiator.
I would have to go with Ghengis Khan. With an Army of never more than 250,000 Mongols he was the greatest conquerer in history. He conquered All of Russia, China, most of the middle east, and half of Europe. He invented lightning war which the Germans later adopted and called Blitzkrieg. Rommel stated most of his ideas were based on the tactics of the Mongols. His use of mobile horseman who where experts with their powerful recurve bows, tough as hell Soldiers, and ruthless but very skillful tactics led him to endless victories.
I believe the only time the Mongols ever really lost a major battle was when they tried to invade Japan and were wiped out by a Typhoon. Read some stuff on The Mongols if you like military history. They were as hardcore as it gets.

As far as commanders, I would say Patton or Rommel. They both had an enormous amount of respect for eachother. I read that Rommel found some of Patton's men stranded in the dessert, and instead of letting them die, he gave them water and supplies. Patton responded by sending Rommel a box of cigars, and a case of champagne.
