am i pushing my luck........
Guys, I purchased chicken 6 days ago. It has been in my fridge since last friday afternoon raw uncooked. now wednesday night. By cooking it tonight, am i pushing my luck
It felt slightly grimy, like lunch meat that is pushing its time, and had a real slight odor to it, probably like a 2 out of 10 on strength. maybe even a one. But i am pretty sure raw meat doesnt exactly smelll spectacular in the first place.
i rinsed it off and the smell and griminess is gone
Part of me sais i am over analyzing and my mind is ****ing with me and 375 degrees would crush any bacteria
But i dont want to get food poisoning not fun
Will i be fine by cooking and eating?
sorry for the some what silly post, but, hey, we young guys living on our own for the first time have to learn these things, and it doesnt have to be the hard way if you know what i mean

generally with chicken i give it 3 days, 4 days max if i have my fridge set above normal cold.. red meat i give it 5-6

damn, as a side note, after i rinsed it, zero smell. and it didnt smell overly bad in the first place. kind of that sour milk smell. strength of odar, proabably 1 or 2 out of 10

the shitty thing is, i called home, and my mom is asleep, my dad did tell me to cook it tonight and eat it. usually, he is right about shit, but he has been in a motor cycle accident and broke his jaw playing backyard football one time. so, if that means anything.......

with rotten raw food anyway. i would have to think its like this
heat kills it either way. the bacterias enzymes and cell wall function is ****ed with application of heat.
1. if its fine in the first place 2 or 3 days past reccomendations
2. if its spoiled rotten while raw, heat would still **** the germs day up, it would probably in reality be safe and harmless, but just unbearable to eat because it would taste like a stench.
maybe i have the right thinking (shoulder shrugg)
damnit, i am jus ttrying to rationalize because i need protein

ok, so i cooked it, and it tastes real funny. so i dont get protein tonight
i find it highly unlikely that anything would be alive in that chicken, but it tastes funny and my gut feeling said dont be a schmuck and for once in your life skip a meal of protein

i feel weak already froom lack of prtein jesus
i always get myself in these stupid situations. last year, i made a thread just like this because i was making eggs in my dorm room one night, (last batch), and the last egg was severely cracked and i got put in wit h the other 11.
so i got all freaked and made a thread. took my chances then, came out fine, no chances tonight.
honostly though, if i was a bacterium, and i was in an oven that was 350 degrees. i would be like "ahh, my cell membrane wont work. shit. i cant breathe. whoa, my proteins are bending and unfolding and are out of whack, uh o, they are vibrating, shit now they broke apart and pieces are flying everywhere, o no, crap, i am drying out. fack, my dna dont work. crap, my enzymes arent doing anything, shit, my biological processes arent working, and my enzymes cant hold on to a substrate for shit. shit shit, i am losing my cytoplasmic contents,.....flat line........."
but it still tasted like shit, so i didnt eat it fack
but thte chicken tasted like shit, and ya never know, maybe toxins didnt die,Last edited by IronReload04; 10-11-2006 at 10:57 PM.

Dude I had food poisoning and I was throwing up and shitting at the same time with chills and a fever..

i threw it away guys. i cooked it, took a couple bites, and said nah, this went bad for sure.
most likely, since it was cooked, it was harmless, but im not taking chances. not eating protein for half a day is less severe then puking my brains out for 3-4 days. thats the way i see it

i have taken chances before, and like another said, anticipating whether or not you are going to get sick can make you sick in itself. just not worth the worry and risk

Eating no protien for half a day is better than losing 5-6lbs from throwing up and being dehydrated

Chicken is one thing I don't fack around with. red meat is safer. I have a steak that's been marinating in my fridge for 4 days. no problem. I usually stick with red meat bc I hate cooking chicken.

realistically though....nothing could survive 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes
or can it?
either way, i wasnt about to eat it, then be paranoid for the next 10 hours about getting food poisoning

Go ahead and eat it...
**sits and waits for results*****No source checks!!!***

depends on your gut... I personally leave chicken at my desk at work sometimes and eat it the next day or 2 after. By pushing your stomach to fight bacteria you get a bit of a tolerance to it. Why mexicans can drink there own water but gringo's can't :P

throw it out and dont risk it.
but next time if you think you wont eat it on same day, throw it in freezer.
then you will have no problem
