i have a 2006 wrx impreza 2.5L T.
the sound system is kinda weak i think im looking for the specifications and will leave them below, i got no idea what exactly i would have to buy and replace and look for, if any 1 knows much about speakers and watts and amps and can give me a rough idea how it works thatd be great.
cant find at all on website but my mate works for subaru and says.
the front 2 splits are 10 watts and the back 2 are 15 watts, he said he dosnt know the rms but upgradeing i should atleast get 80 rms. i dont know anything about subs or amps or speakers.. any info and direction what i need to look for and find out would be nice.

I have a pretty good alpine system installed. Ill be honest with you though, I dont know any of the specs. I just booked in to a specialist car audio place and told them I wanted it loud with clarity and I needed my ipod to be like a hard drive in the car for alll my songs. They did what i asked and it cost me about £350

i would go alpine head unit, you can buy dashboard adapter plates for any car these days so fitting it is very simple, you would be surprised how much better your standard speakers will sound, thats your best bet for now
if your still not happy, a set of front component speakers will fit directly into your door panels, you can go down the whole amp sub front rear speakers subs, as iv did many times,
but seeing as your in switzerland i would reccomend you find a local car accsessory shop they will sort you right out

Go to crutchfield.com.
They have tons of free info.
Don't buy anything from them though...they are super overpriced.

If you're going to do it, do it right. The low end Alpine subs SUCK and you will get sloppy bass out of them. Stick with JL Audio or the Alpine F1 Series. Always use Apline as a head-unit. Boston Acoustic, MB Quarts for mids and highs and definitely JL Audio, Matts or again, the Alpine new line of amps.
Put it this way, you want some dirty ass sounding bass that anyone can hear from blocks away? Or would you rather have clarity and nice tight sounding bass. My system with custom glassed door panels, re-wrapped and put in blue plexiglass windows with lights and the Boston Acoustics logo on them, 2 x JL Audio 10w6v2's, 1 JL 500.1 powering them, 2 x Zapco 220 amps powering the Boston Acoutsic 6/1 splits and the Alpine head-unit running my rear Boston Rx-47's. Wires, distribution blocks, alternator (high output) and some lights in the trunk for a little under $4000. It sounds amazing both inside the car and outside to ANY type of music. I choose clarity and cleanness over a dirty ass sounding system you can get at Best Buy or Circuit City.
Just my 2ccs.

Rockford Fosgate makes good subs too. (Thats what I have, The power HX2 )
Dynamat is great for getting rid of exterior noise, but not essential, I love it though.
Great companies are:
Sony
Panosonic
Alpine
Rockford Fosgate
Clarion - I have the DVD head unit made by them.
There are tons more.
Just go to Crutchfield.com
Good luck.

Your best bet would be to set up components. It would yield much better sound quality when compared with a conventional 2 or 3 way speaker.
What type of music do you listen to? What is your focus for upgrading your stereo? Are you looking for quality, or show?
The placement of components do make a huge difference in performance and quality.
Generally:
The best thing to upgrade first is the head-unit. What type of features do you want for it? Are you planning on connecting a ipod to it, do you want a lcd screen, navigation, how much power?
One thing that most stock setups lack is good bass. A high quality sub woofer should be the first thing you look at. Depending on how lound, or how much "thump" you need, would determine the size(s) needed.
A sub will only perform as well as it's box allows. A sealed or ported box would be best. Your best bet would be to have a box custom built for you. A sealed box is pretty cheap to get custom built. It's all about air. You want the correct amount of air in the box. Too much or too little will distort the sound.
The next thing too look for with subs is placement. Generaly you want it facing the back of the back of the vehicle.
The next component would be the mids. A round speaker will out perform others. 6.5" is my favorite size. These are generally best placed in the doors, and either flush or slightly anged upwards.
A good set of tweeters would grab those higher frequencies. Tweeters need to be higher up, and facing the listener. It's generally best to have them placed in the A pillar, directed towards the passanger and driver. You don't want them too high, because it may cause distortion with the roof.

Aswell, by reducing other noise with DYNAMAT or Fatmat, your sound quality will be much better. I would atleast do your trunk area, although everything would be best.
