I used to work at LA Fitness and they would have member appreciation "parties" at the club and have all sorts of food catered. Pizza, lasagna, even cookies. It was ridiculous.
What was even more ridiculous was all the people who finished their workouts and grabbed something on their way out the door.

Maybe they want their member to gain lots of weight so they can sell more personal training services?
Sounds like a good little maketing strategy to me.

I've recently signed up for a public gym membership, mainly due to my wife becoming sick and tired of our home gym. I'm cool with it because I could use a change of scenery on occassion. We've committed to a 3 year membership at 24 Hour Fitness and it's one of the Magic Johnson facilities. I've made a few trips to the gym this past week and I must admit that I'm very disheartened by what I see out of their personal trainers. The male trainers are EXTREMELY out of shape. The female trainers, on the other hand, are in great shape.
I just found it to be extremely discouraging because a personal trainer's number one selling point has to be his/her physical appearance.

They have coffee, apples, bananas and other fruits at my gym on the way out to door every friday. I usually grab a cup of coffee and a banana. I can't imagine going to a place that serves pizza and pop.
