    The Aussie

I just wanna say that the yanks are smart and help us out alot but I am proud as punch to be an AUSSIE and I wouldn't swap that for a million $$$. Thats what it says on my passport and that it stays till I die. We just won back the ASHES, I'v had a few and feeling great. Sometimes I feel that we as a nation are not proud enough, we don't wear the flag and get behind it like we should. Just look at the Yanks when there National Anthem is playing with thier hands on thier hearts. You don't see that enough here. So I say when you hear that song being played in front of that flag, stand up, sing and be bloody glad to be an aussie!!!!

Shame about all the Rugby trophies though ay?!

I love a good rattle about the Rugby - being a proud Kiwi chick and all - but I do love my adopted country somewhat too.

I'm not an Aussie, but I think it would be nice to be there...I never hear about Australia ever being involved in any of the worlds' events or conflicts...
On the worlds' front, I never hear anything about the country...it's as if they're outsiders, but I think it's a good thing...better to not be throwing weight around and invading countries or stuffing a large part of your countries fiscal monies into military spending and defense.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very patriotic about my country and proudly served in my military...ooh rah!, but it seems odd how I never hear Australia in world events, never.

Not only are they a country, but an entire continent as well...

Imma visit that country some day.

Australias a great country for sure I spent a big part of my childhood there... As for world events have you never heard of Galipolli, they are allways being slammed in the brit media for thier strict imigration policy like when they send the navy out to turn away a boatfull of refugees.

^^I'm also not a Brit, so I guess I wouldn't be aware of that either...I just know that there is never any mention in the U.S. media of happenings or going ons in Australia...seems every other part of the world is always making the news though.

Some of the best dudes that I'm also proud to call my friends are from Oz. I want to put in a few more years here in Japan before moving to Perth, so my kids can grow up in a native-English speaking country/city with multi-cultural awareness and tolerance (unlike Japan).

Actually generally they get involved in every war we do, just not on a large scale. They've been active in Iraq and afghanistan, and they have some bloody good soldiers too.

Same thing with rural towns in the States and pretty much anywhere in Japan. I imagine there are racists, bigots, and xenophobes just about everywhere you go. However, I've been to Perth a few times and my wife lived there using a working holiday visa. We were both impressed with the multi-cultural environment there. As for places like Darwin, Townsville, or Alice Springs - I don't think we'd fit in.

I'll second that. I had some minor interaction with Aussie SAS in Kuwait and those guys had their dope dialed tight. They know how to party as well!!

Dont know what worlds events we haven't been involved in,with regards to war anything the US or UK have been involved in, in the last 100 years we have been there(maybe with the exception of falklands?)WW1,WW2,KOREAN,Vietnam,Afganistan,Iraq part one and two,East timor(no US or UK there, but more peace keeping, same goes for cook islands,Fiji,Samoa)......list goes on. sure we dont start anything, but we are there because of our alliance.dont know if many of Americans know this but we have a treaty that simply states"any attack on America is viewed as an attack on Australia, any attack on Australia is viewed as an attack on America".it was signed by Bill Clinton and John Howard.
As far as any other world stage goes, lets start with sport, you might have heard of an event called the olympics,we have hosted the summer version twice,1956,in Melbourne and recently in 2000 in Sydney. for a county with just over 20 million we do pretty good i think we came 5th last time every other county on top of us usually has 10 times as many people,we have won gold in nearly every field,we dominate swimming. We dominate so strongly in commonwealth games we make it look like we compete against high school kids, not much competition.
Another event on the world stage is soccer (football)world cup,we made the top 16 only to be knocked out by the eventual winner(ITALY)in a dubious extra time penalty. We have at some stage in last 70 years dominated tennis, golf, surfing, cricket, swimming, netball, rugby
Ever heard of the movies?you may have heard of Mel Gibson,Nicole Kidman,Russel Crowe,Cate Blanchette,Jack Thompson,Eric Bana,Errol Flynn...just to name a few of top of head.
With regards to medicine theres this stuff called penicillin, its used to make anti biotics, developed by Dr Flemming,an Australian,in WW2 in fact alot of todays medicines and treatments come from this great land but dont get as much recognition as sports or wars, have a look through Nobel prizes many Australians, this year in fact for medicine, cure for stomach ulcers found to be caused by a bacteria.

If your a fan of music surly you have heard of some of our bands AC/DC,

Actually our immigration policy is rather weak, needs to be much firmer. These people in boats are not from war torn country, which is what a refugee is,someone seeking refuge. these people are coming from Indonesia, with boats full of dieses, you want to live here come through the f###ing front door.the only people that come here from war torn countries are from Africa, and last time i looked at the map Australia is not first port of call,UK is much closer. If its so strict why are so many Brits living here now

Australia is the best country in the world. Only Aussies can understand why.

You dont know the meaning of a weak immigration policy LOL any idiot from anywhere in the world can come here to abuse our health service and benefit system, there are books written in other countries on how to bleed the brits, we are easy pickings for the worlds freeloaders thats why there are so many brits in Oz, Id be there myself if I could LOL... Hey dont have a spare room do you?

Why do Aussies and Kiwis get offended if you mistake one for the other... Its hard to tell the difference between accents, just like Americans find it hard to tell the brit/aus/kiwi accents apart but I dont get offended when they make a mistake

Its just a rivalry thing like the USA and Canada I guess, They kick our asses at Rugby we kick there asses at Cricket and on it goes. There accents are HUGELY different to ours as well. The number six for example, they pronounce it sux and pin is pronounced pun, Totally weird, Oh and they like having sex with sheep a lot as well
