having not played a ps3 yet i cant judge on visually which is the better.
it is however unfair to judge a a launch title of the ps3 to gears of war on the 360. the publishers for the 360 have had a year start when making the games, so in a years time the ps3 should have games as good as gears.
have you owned either? is there a specific franchise of game that you like?
specification wise the ps3 does appear the better on paper.
either way i have a 360, and as soon as the ps3 is released in the uk, i shall be one of those guys queing up at sparrow fart.

its a toss up IMO. One thing to consider is that PS lost exclusive rights to a lot of games so games will come out for both systems without delay. IE: GTA came out about a yr earlier on PS2 then it did on xbox. so its equal in games, both can support 1080. and we are talking xbox 360 here right. do you have an HDTV?

graphics - technically PS3 has a better processor but the xbox 360's processor is more efficient which makes them equal for all intensive purposes. anyone that says there is a drastic difference between the 2 is a moron. PS3 plays blue ray and costs $600, the 360 doesnt and it costs $399, they do have an HD DVD adapter for the 360 that costs $199 so they are the same price in that regard.

one thing i will say about my xbox 360 that i find extremely cool is that you can download windows media center to your computer, network the computer to the 360 and play all your music from your PC, that may be anywhere in your home into the 360 and the sound system you hook up to it. Now when you entertain guests and have a house party with your music library will be on tap and then you enlarge the windows media graphic on your TV and it becomes "Club Doc Sust". Its much easier then it sounds, but for the ultimate in simplicity you can plug your ipod into the 360 and play music that way using the windows media player on the 360. im sure the PS3 has similar functionality.

the memory is not the same for both systems. if your talking about hard drives the xbox 360 has a 20gig removable drive and you can buy more. the ps3 has a 60 gig drive but i dont know if you can buy more of those. ive had the 360 for well over a year and ive only used 10 gigs and i have a ton of saved games.

and yes xbox 360 games are in HD and supports up to 1080 just like the ps3. the blue ray player doesnt do much for the games themselves, its for actual DVDs.

you may want to read this article on the techy geek stufff about it and not hear peoples bias opinions.

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...box+360+vs+ps3

also make a mental note that the regular xbox took a huge part of the mkt share away from ps2 and that trend only continued with the 360. what that means coupled with the difficulty programmers are having programming ps3 games is you should expect more games from the 360 for a while

also if your into online gaming xbox 360 owns the PS3 there. no one can argue that. after initial hiccups i find the 360 online(xbox live) to run smoother then a PC gaming platform. I was playing call of duty 3 online and had 15 people on my team without any lag.

there is not difference for the user. meaning they both provide high def viewing of movies. think back to the 80s when VHS came out....there competition was Beta-Max(Sony). VHS eventually won out and if you bought beta you were screwed. same situation. its just a different format to bring you the same technology.

its hard to believe but the gap has been bridged my friend. the only limitation is the system itself its not the server anymore.

the xbox is not superior, really. the ps3 has just been released and it is unfair to compare the two just yet. the developers need time to maximise the results of the software.
bluray dvds are sony's design of high definition playback and storage disks, they will have a capacity of upto 50gb. some movie production companies will be backing this. also as every ps3 sold will mean that household will have a bluray player, and are unlikely to go out and spend money on the other type of high defintion dvd player.
hd dvd is the format microsoft are backing, these will only be able to store 25gb per disc. an additional hd dvd player add on is available for the xbox 360.
i have my media center pc connected to my xbox 360, this means that i can access the films, clips, porn, and music through my television. which is a major aspect of the 360 as microsoft make media center.
i am also able to access websites and download payperview movies, porn, sports through my 360.
it is not known which of the 2 formats of dvd will be the last standing, as many production companies are backing either, also electronic manufacturers are also backing one or the other.
considering the cost of the games consoles are going to be similair to the stand alone high definition dvd players i think having both would be a good idea. you would have both formats, and when the winner is revealed you can buy a standalone.

also, the ps3's hard drive can be modded with some of the hardrives for laptops, therefore making it huge.
the wii, is a waste of time and money in my opinion.

It's hard to say with the media struggle. Like said above, Sony may be Beta-maxed again with blueray.

Depending on if HD-DVD or Blueray becomes more successful, will probably pick which consol will sell better.

Sony had a horrible time with the PSP's UMD media. Nobody wanted to buy movies for a small PSP screen. They
want games, and to be able to download movies onto their memory sticks.

Sony already had Beta-max and UMD fail as a media type. It's hard to say if Blueray will succeed or not. Their saving grace may be that Disney signed up for Blueray.

Most disks are hybrid disks, in which 1 side will be DVD and the other will be either HD-DVD or BlueRay.

The two systems have been compared and Xbox hands down out does the ps3... Only thing the ps3 does better then the xbox was something very technical that I didn't understand, but in all that matters, it didn't mean shit...

    I would say a 360..
    Xbox has more games now..
The games they have are also rated better than ps3 games..
    Xbox 360 is cheaper..
I always like xbox better than ps2 also..
    Finally and Halo...
