any one make hip hop/ rap beats? or know what program is easiest to use for just some freestyle beats.

used to record a bit over a year ago. but i put that on hold when i moved. i just do it for fun. good feeling to hear your shit once your done. only got a couple of things done but im going to start again. funny how much u change and think in another year. somewhat mature even tho im crazy on AR. great place to take out your hype and insanity. better here then public. great on tracks too.

I've been producing for 2 1/2 years. Used Reason 3.0 for 2 years. Than I dropped about 400 bucks and went for FL Studio XXL. I produce trance, hard trance, house and club.
Rap is simple to get a thick beat down in any studio.
But Reason doesnt have audio-in so Id recommend FL Studio so you can get a mic hooked up.
The factory soundbanks and presets in FL are designed mostly for trance production but so is most studio software Ive used. Fl studio does however have more than enough hip hop/rap instrumentals to stay busy for a while.

They have whole rap kits with the initial d/load. After that it would be no big deal do find some freeware vst's and thousands of samples to work with.
I have a good deal of professional rap vocals you can remix but Im not sure if youll be producing original material or remixing. W/e the case out of all the programs Ive used Id say FL Studio is the most popular for a reason. And its user friendly.
You can go cubase but youd have to take a small class just to learn the basics of it. PT (pro tools) sucks with midi implementation and a lot of other things in general. Reason doesnt support vst. FL studio is def the way to go imo.

edit: and no most people dont drop 400 bucks for FL. They say 60% of the users are working with a warezed version. But if you have the cash the amount of freebies they throw in are INSANE and well worth it.
If your interested shoot me a pm because Im know the sources for everything when getting a studio going.

On the real tho, i agree with bojangles in regards to FL Studio. I copped it from guitar center when they had a sale and i think i got like almost 100 bucks off. i Like to use alot of different things when i record. I currently use Acid pro, Soundforge, FL Studio, and Reason. I have had Reason and FL for about a year and i am still learning new things everyday. You just have to use what you are familiar with. My friends are willing to drop tons of cash to get pro tools. But if you follow producers alot of producers dont use Pro Tools. 9th Wonder for instance uses FL for all his beats along with some of the other producers from the justice league. If you can get ahold of the magazine SCRATCH, it has alot of good s--t in there. 9th wonder once quoted in scratch "Who needs fancy equipment if you can make a beat on some buckets. If you can drop 50 points in b-ball with some chuck taylors why would you need Jordans"

FL (Y'all mean "fruity loops" right?) kicks ass!

    It's really useable.

I had a program before that.. and it was murder. Poor functionablity etc.

    Couldn't merge inputs easily etc.

Heck, Microsoft's sound recorder was better than the program i had before.. Only prob was it picked up too much back ground noise lol.

    FL is sweet!

I'm hoping to raise enough cash this year to build a sound proofed studio room in my dad's home this year.

Read the Wu Tang manual if you can. RZA dedicates a whole chapter to how he records from back when he had a borrowed drum machine and and keyboard. he talks about how the keys only had like a 4 second sample and her figured out how to slow the tape speed down he was recording into to get somethin like 12 seconds of sampling. Its crazy what people use to record. You dont need fancy equipment to record. You can make a good quality record if you have the right materials. Get a good mic, basic program, and a sound proof room (i do my recording in my closet) and you can lay down some fire.

LOL I started being a producer for these 2 cats i used to work with and it ended up that me and the better of the 2 had the chemistry and the swagger that the other guy didnt have so we kicked him out. Dude is more of a poet instead of a rapper. When he records he has his own metronome in his head that is at a different beat than the music. And we couldnt stand it. To make matters worse for him he held a freestyle battle and wanted to perform. He did and ended up gettin booed off stage. No rhythm, no swagger, no mic presence, no dynamics in his vocals. Just a bland a$$ wannabe that wont ever be good b/c he cant take constructive criticism. But if he came to me and wanted to rent some time i wouldnt say know. Cuz that'd be lil scrappy to me (MONEY IN THE BANK)

haha i know bro cuz my brotherinlaw let me listen to some recordings he had done last week when i went home and some of them people SUCKED so bad. The beats were tight but the raps were shitty. its sad they dont realize how much they blow and then there gonna dish out money to get it aired on the radio stations. but always gotta pay bills with that $$$.

Me being a producer i try to work with the guys. I dont like to see my beats go to a waste. Some of the time i just tell them to pay me for the beat and have someone else record it b/c its so bad. Any one can jump behind a mic and spit jibberish or spit about a life that they dont lead. Thats why i mainly listen to underground. I live in so cal and i have people come to me asking me for southern beats. everyone wants to be the next jeezy or joc. I remember when it was the west coast and east coast domination. that was when it was real hip hop music (no offense to anybody from the south b/c i respect the southern movement). In my opinion nobody will ever top the 2pac/biggie era

im guessin he prob does that also def wouldnt want all that work go to waste but i live in the south and know all the underground bands and listen to them more that anything else. Man i remeber when jeezy(i think its him or mike jones im blank right now) was rolling with a group down here trying to promote his name and all his music at first was nothing but old music with him singin it haha lame.

Was probably both of them. It sucks b/c when i listen to all of the old mixtapes of the guys from the south (ex. mike jones, jeezy, pall wall etc), these guys sounded so hungry man. And now that you hear the new stuff that they got its like they say "fvck it i've made it so i can slack off and make some club s--t". I personally like the old stuff. DJ drama and jeezy mixtapes, the old mixtapes from michael watts. That stuff is nasty. A group i can say has tried hard to stay to their roots until just recently (mostly due to people locked up) is Three 6. i've been on them since mystic stylez record. When i used to listen to them out here in cali before they dropped the unbreakables people would trip out b/c they never heard that stuff. Now people over here are up in the club "high I I I I I I I I til i DIE I I I I I I "

if any one wants to make me a few beats. anything would be cool. guess that some of the less professional makers here wouldnt mind mixing a quick one or letting me test a few beats you proud of.

Ditto, just for some personal music. I want to make something for a girl of mine.

To the people talking about the south music I agree with most of the comments. In the states I live in Houston so I was listening to Chamillionaire when he was still the Chameleon. I was listening to Paul Wall WAY back in the day when his lyrical style was just wild. Hell, my sister was dating one of Scarface's boys when he was still known as Akshen... Now that these guys have blown up a lot of their stuff isn't bad but it just ain't the same. I still buy boot H-town mix CDs. I'm hoping some new dude will come out that blows my mind.

Yo what kind of beat are you looking for? You want somethin thats original or maybe something with some samples in it. I try to do both but with the way the industry is now, sampling is a must. lemme know what style you like and i'll see what i can come up with and drop you somethin
