    western union currency conversion

howdy, i had to send some money to thailand during the week. the recipient wanted it in $ but i was told that it had to be sent in the currency of the destination currency. anyway i added some extra to cover any conversion costs. and they where decent about it
now i need to send money to either turkey or israel and was told that it has to be sent in $ , as i said that i would sent the equivilant in whatever currency.
is the lady at the travel agent just being an ass or can you really not send $ to a country where it isnt used.
    im in the uk.

i can send via money gram, is this method easier or not.

I dont know the reason behind it but it was similar when I sent money to china via WU in $'s but had to convert it to £'s but nobody cared as the end result was the same. Only thing is they give you a lesser exchange rate which is a pain, they charge enough for the service as it is.

I used Western Union to send $'s to China from the Middle East .... no problems telling them I wanted $1490 sent.

The UK seems to have a problem with currencies other than sterling.
