Anydody else think today's male movie stars are a bunch of wimps?
I remember when I was a kid, lots of male actors were portrayed tough and epitomized classical male attributes (ie. Don't talk or whine too much just get the job done). For example Arnold, Stallone, Eastwood or even Harrison Ford. Even Mel Gibson was okay before he stated the whole anti-sematic thing. I admired the fact he put his own money into The Passion and Apocalypto and did it his way.
Look at today's biggest paid actors: 1) Tom Cruise goes around verbally attacking other women's medication choices. A real man would mind his own business. 2) Brad Pitt is pussy whipped and following Angelina around the world like a love sick teenage boy.
Ben Affleck was pussy whipped by J Lo. and cries in half his movies.
The Rock and Vin Diesel seemed to be the new Schwarzenegger and Stallone. But I don't think either could write an academy winning movie Like Rocky or do what Schwarzenegger did. ( Dominate 3 different professions Bodybuilding, Movie Biz, Politics and he also good with his money since he invest his earnnings in real estate and is worth close to a billion)
For a while Russell Crowe seemed to be promising but then he has diva like temper tantrums. He should save the phone throwing antics for boy bands who want to prove how hard core they are and he should act like a real man.
Some of the new guys may be phyically buff but i don't think they are mentally tough, ie Brad Pitt.
I realized this when I was about to watch The Departed. From what I heard it's a gangster movie with Marky Mark, and Leonardo Dicaprio LOL. Although Jack Nickleson is a good choice but where are the young Robert De Niros, Joe Pecis, Al Pacinos.
Don't get me stated on heros who wear their underwear on the outside or Pirates with mascara. Who's young boy supposed to look up to?
That's my rant, time for bed.

i havnt been to the movies in well over a year. the movies are going to shit, and yes the actors are little girls. and i agree vin diesel has protenial to be huge, not sure if the rock can keep up, marky mark is a good actor and i like him, i give him full credit. i think johnny deep is a good actor, but cant do the tough movies. and yeh bradpitt is pretty buff, but from his past movies and reputation still cant really take it up.
hmm what will we do?

Well atleast we got wesley snipes. b actor offcourse but imo the blade movies are the only true action movies in a long time. No bullshit, no story to speak of. Just alot of action.
Like good porn, good action should not have a story. The story is just there to give the hero a reason to **** people.
Denzel Washington was a good classical hero in man on fire.
I realy enjoyed walking tall and doom with the rock and im probably the only one in the universe that thought that chronicles of riddic was good and vin disel was perfect for the role.

Brad pitt and tom cruise is good in the movies they make though. I enjoyed troy and I enjoyed war of the worlds.
But if arnie would have done war of the worlds he wouldnt have ran from the tripods. He would break into a gunshop, there would be a long scene with bad ass music where he is camoflauge painting himself and stocking up on guns and after that he would go out and **** em up.

I liked Chronicles as well, but Doom was one of the worst movies ever.

i agree lots of actors who look good but you just dontbelieve them.....
but i did like jason stathem in the transporter 1&2 and crank.and i quite liked danial craig as james bond, not as wet and soft as previous bonds,a bit more hardcore.
liked vin deisel in riddic but was really put off when he did that babysitter shit!!!!!!!
cred went straight down the pan, arny and sly did similar things but came back from it just not sure vin can come back from that

Denzel has played some pretty good roles. Pitt portrays too much of a sweetalking quick thinking role in too many movies to be considered badass. but the best ways for a kid to have someone to look up to would be to make sure he watches every terminator, rocky, and james bond movie before he's 16.

You realize they are actors playing parts. Are you saying the parts are wimpy. Or the actor in real life is a wimp?

I believe both the parts are wimpy and actors are wimpy. I believe the actors of the past had more grit mentally and physically. I 'm talking about the A list actors. It seems tough guys are relegated to the b and c list.
I think Arnold and Sly could kick the shit out of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, if they were the same age, plus thier off screen personas weren 't as wimpy.
I liked Troy but thought brad pitt was only hired to bring the chicks in, in real life anybody would have kicked his butt. In War of the Worlds I thought Tom played the part of a dad quite well but really wasn't a action hero like Mission Impossible.
