How secure are hotmail and paypal?

OK, so the title says it all - How secure are hotmail and paypal?

i.e. Are they traceable by law enforcement in the UK?

If they are in fact not secure, what are my alternatives for email communication and receiving payments?

    Many thanks!

as far as e-mail i woudl stay away from hotmail they have a pretty bad rap. lots of server problems and things like that. as far as e-mail i use gmail since is java based its in real time so if someone send u an e-mail it tells u right away, and u tells what contacts of yours are actully writing u an e-mail or just checking there e-mail, its pretty revolutionary for e-mailing. also they give you unlimited space and they tab e-mails hich is very nice. check it out

As far as paypal.. im not even gonna talk about them. also very sketchy. here check this out http://www.paypalsucks.com/

All I can say is, NEVER use Paypal via a "Paypal" link that you might one day receive in an e-mail. The same with Ebay. These are often backdoor websites that are created for scamming purposes. Always go to the Paypal website directly.

Hmmm, just read gmail's privacy policy and I'm not so sure - is there anywhere I can get an offshore-based email addy that will not reveal my personal info to ANYONE?

OK, good point, but can't they ultimately get you via your IP address?
