Help - Grow body hair, increase DHT?
Apart from Minoxodil (found in products such as Rogaine) is there any other way
to stimulate hair growth.
I'm part of *********.com and a **********yahoo board. We are
interested in ways to promote body hair and facial hair growth.
There has been people experimenting with allsorts of chemicals and
herbs to try and promote growth. The main stimuliant that seems to have
great success is Minoxodil. Most product that claim to help promote hair
growth actually has been tested and researched to prevent boldness
and inhibit DHT by reducing 5-alpha reductase the enzyme that converts more
DHT to be produced. Unfortanetly alot of people seeking to grow body hair
don't realise putting DHT inhibitors on the body could lead to hair lose.
Azeliac acid, palmetto and Beta-sitosterol are common example. Some
herbs such as Tea leaf extract, Grape seed extract and Bayberry Oil can act as inhibitors too.
I aslo read up that Retin-a could also help increase hair growth with Minox due to its
localise vasodilation properties increase absorbtion of the minox. But then
I've just read that Vitamin A and C can be DHT inhibitors and reading that
Retin-A is formed by Vitamin A, i figured it would be a bad idea to place it on
the body.I've also read experiments that some oils were thought to help promote
growth when applied too, one hyped example was Emu oil, but very little
results came from it (discovered as a DHT inhibitor). Jojoba oil has had remarkable results
when applied with minox, a theory is it indicated that this oil very closely resembles
the oil of ourown sebaceous glands, and acts as a much closer replicator of
our what we ourselves emit through our own pores but without suppressing
any of the androgenic properties thatare somehow involved in the growth of secondary
(non-head) hair growth. It seems that hair growth apart from genetics
is down to DHT levels, I know the trade of is increase DHT could increase baldness
but it is risk many are willing to take still. One of the co-founders of grow body hair group

Your body produces testosterone in two locations. The main one is in
the testicles and this is the predominating production center.
Testosterone itself is then broken down into two versions within the
body. The first version is more for anabolic effects. (That is greatly
over-simplified, but let's not get technical because we want the part
that relates to body hair only and the other would take pages and is far
more space than we need to take here.)
Your liver produces an enzyme called 5-alpha-reductase which chemically
converts the testosterone produced by your body into dihydrotestosterone
(DHT) It is this (DHT) or dihydrotestosterone that is totally
responsible for secondary sex characteristics which include facial and
body hair. Without 5-alpha-reductase there is no conversion of the
hormone and secondary sex characteristics do not appear.
All male hormones are basically what are now referred to as controlled
substances and can land you in jail. Strangely female hormones are not
and this is totally idiotic.
In order to even have a shot at amplification of secondary sex
characteristics you would not need testosterone as much as injections of
DHT. This IS a commercially available preparation, but it is rarely
used. The reasons that this falls into a "rarely used" category are
mainly relating to what would be required for you to use it effectively.
The most common injectable testosterone used for hormone replacemnt in
men is a long-acting testosterone ester called "Depo-Testosterone" by
trade name. This is most commonly used because a single injection will
last about 5 days with levels peaking on the third day after the
injection. If you were to get any benefit from the commercial version
of DHT it would take daily injections to accomplish this because it has
a very short life before it is used up.
What would be ideal for the purposes of growing hair would be a DHT
cream that would penetrate directly into the hair follicles with a lower
rate of systemic absorbtion. This already does exist to a small extent
and is under research in use for HIV patients. The version currently
under usage and research is in the form of a transdermal patch. This
works differently than an injection and based on the design of the patch
can be done in a "timed release" manner.
The real fact is that what 90% of us need is NOT testosterone at all.
If you had a way to get additional 5-alpha-reductase to the hair
follicles you could achieve then whole thing without any problem because
you would simply be converting far more for usage at that level. The
main difference between extremely hairy men and smooth ones with
follicles is the presence or absence of the conversion enzyme at the
follicles to stimulate growth.
Before you ask, yes 5-alpha-reductase does exist, but sadly at this
point in time it is only found in research labs and used in that area.
It would be virtually impossible to get for a person not involved in
research with the proper qualifications. Yet, to the best of my
knowledge it is neither a classified drug nor is it at present a
controlled substance in any manner.
Hope that this information helps!

Most people dislike body hair and want to rid. I and small community out
who have always had very minimal body hair wish to increase for numerous
personal reasons, e.g, feeling un-fullfilled, fill patchy beards, look older, be treated
more seriously, add diffrent style or character...etc.
I've taken this debate to you guys as many of you are chemical gurus
and possible know more on DHT and have some invaluable information.
What are your views on this. Are their any products on the market that
could increase DHT (e.g andractim cream?), what would increase DHT, what are your
views on knowledgability on increasing Body Hair growth.

DHT wont just make you lose your hair if you are not genetically predisposed and do not already have high levels... I think people overestimate how bad it is, in the general population. Either way, AAS and prohormones (and I beleive certain SERMS or AI's) can increase DHT through various ways, more testosterone for example, usually increases DHT through that alpha reductase enzyme system. I think that article is confused, as that isnt a drug, its simply an enzyme. I dont think there is a chance of administering DHT or increasing reductase in just your hair follucules without it affecting your whole body... To sum it up, AAS is a good way to increase secondary characteristics, such as muscle mass, and body hair.
