    sports nutrition books

can anyone suggest some good reading for sports nutrition and any other good BB or strength orientated books. I would like some real detailed books explaining the science ect (not your basic crap put out for general reading). Anyone who is studying in this field suggest anything?? Also where to buy or does anyone have any old study books they wish to sell??

Hey pefectbeast this guy has some really good books that i'm sure you would like....Frederick C. Hatfield, PH.D.

I have Ultimate Sports Nutrition (A scientific Approach To Peak Athletic Performance) and there is alot of good info in there. Here is where you can find his books, if for some reason you can't get them from this site then let me know and I will get them for you and ship them to you as well. But i'm sure you will be able to get them.

I also owned this book and if you already have basic knowledge about diet and I mean BASIC, then dont buy this book. It was a waste of money in my opinion. It also has a bunch of useless chapters.

There are far better, and more current resources available for those who would like to learn about athletic eating and training. 'Natural Hormonal Enhancement' by Rob Faigin is a great book,(if you are trying to build muscle or recover from intense training ignore the author's comments about post workout carb intake). I particularly like paleolithic nutrition, with slight adjustments it is great for athletes, see 'Neanderthin' by Ray Audette. Atkins is definitely worth a read for his analysis of high carb diets and insulin disorder, but I don't consider some of his food choices ( his much-maligned pork rinds for example!). Also check out, Optimum Sports Nutrition: Your Competitive Edge, If anything I would check this book out first. Even a complete novice would enjoy and understand, and Michael Colgan's knowledge on the subject of nutrition is astounding. this book is not as current as some of the first I mentioned but definetly worth looking into.

    Hope that helps.

I found one on ebay, for like $2. Its rare you find a well written book but since Im reading other things right now, I dont mind being patient.

This is a MUST read, I also liked how it melds very well w/the everyday advice we read in the diet forum.
