this looks kinda fishy to me...
here is the situation, im looking for a bike. its my first bike. i would really like to get a black r6. so im lookin around online and BAM! black r6, good condition for 3500. and even better, its in NY (where i am).
so i email the guy asking him the usual questions, mileage, more pics, damage history etc... and this is his response:
Dear Sir First of all,
let me assure you about the performances and about the condition of it. The bike is in a perfect shape with no damage, no scratches or dents, never touched the ground, no hidden defects, and it is as advertised.
I'm the owner with the title in hand and the transaction can be completed quickly. You will receive all the papers and documentation, the clear title and the certificate of origin and all the bills and invoices. There is no liens on the title and you will not have any complications about the registration and licensing the bike.
I'm in a trip in United Kingdom and the shipping company will handle the shipping for me! The bike is ready for delivery as we have speak, sealed and packaged so we can close the deal as soon as you're ready. I tell you the truth I am forced to sell this bike as my sister is very sick and need a marrow transplant and as she need it quickly I have to sell my bike as soon as possible to help her. I am right now with her in United Kingdom where the transplant will be made. So even it is pretty hard to do it, to save a life I think it worse. This has no negative effect on you because shipment is included in the buy it now price and will cost you nothing more.
Shipping will be done with ,, Lufthansa Air Cargo,, insured and will take 5 days to reach your address. I will pay all shipping and delivery costs (they are included in the buy it now price of US $3,500.00).
I prefer that our deal to be supervised by eBay that is why eBay will assign an agent that will receive the payment until they have confirmation that you will accept the bike.
Please send me your FULL NAME AND ADDRESS so I will let eBay know that you are interested and also to register our deal.
You will receive an email from them instructing you about how to send payment and they'll release the funds to me only after you receive and
inspect the bike.
I think that this is a fair way to make business and I hope that you will agree. I don't touch your money until you receive and inspect the goods.
Hoping that I have kept your attention and your interest is still on, I look forward for any questions that you might have regarding the bike.
Thanks!
my response was:
first of all let me let you know that your sister is in my prayers.
in regards to the bike, where is it located? i would like to see it in person before any money exchanges hands.
thanks
John
i dont know if i should be skeptical about this or what, i have never purchased anything of this magnitude through the internet. what do you guys think?

Man I would run from that. I was in the market for a bike before I got my R1, and I ran across a similar deal, also on ebay. The guy was insistent that I wire or send him the money and he would send me the bike, even after I offered to drive to where the bike supposedly was and upon inspection I would pay whoever had the bike, he came up with too many reasons why he couldn't do that. What year R6 by the way? I could be off on this but sounds fishy to me.

i wouldnt even think about it man...always make sure you see the bike in person before you buy it, even if its on ebay or craigslist. best thing to do is to ask the person if you can take it to a dealership first and pay like $90 to have it fully checked out. also 3500? if its a decent r6 with less than 20,000 miles and later than 2002 you probably wont find one for less than $5,000.

It's a very common scam that many people fall prey too.
Run for your life. If it sounds to good to be true, it is!
Plus the seller e-mail says:
You will receive an email from them instructing you about how to send payment and they'll release the funds to me only after you receive and
inspect the bike.
I think that this is a fair way to make business and I hope that you will agree. I don't touch your money until you receive and inspect the goods.
What if you inspect the bike and don't like it, how then do you get your money backLast edited by ottomaddox; 06-30-2007 at 11:25 AM.

That's not how ebay works at all. It's a scam. With your name, address and bank account information he will have all the information he needs to apply for credit, make checks with your name on them and then he can paper the whole country for as long as it takes for the bank to find out.
