Another fantabulous day at work, but it looks like some guys called in so there is less to have to pay attention to today. My biggest goal for this morning is deciding where I will have lunch. I like to set obtainable goals.
I plan to get the car out and do some cruising this weekend, too damn cold for the bike.

What drivetrain are we talking about here? I may be a Mopar guy, but I appreciate all American muscle.

as for Mopars, I had a 64 1/2 Baracuda with the Hurst 273 solid lift V8, had a '71 'Cuda with a 340, and I used to have 2 original Hemi long blocks, but they flooded in Katrina. (the hemi engines, not the cars)

Nice, Big, very nice. I've had a '72 'cuda and a '72 dart. Both 318's, but the 'cuda was souped up hard (a little too hard for the street, honestly). I'm sitting on a 383 with a steel crank and small chamber heads along with a 727 right now. If I turn down the mains on a good 440 crank and buy some custom pistons I can get about 440 cubes with a lower deck height, lighter pistons, and stronger main caps.
Did you build that crate motor or buy it assembled? What rear end is housing the posi?

I bought this engine from an engine builder I met online, it's a 496 stroker, steel crank, steel rods, forged 11:1 pistons, LS6 heads worked over, Holley 850, just good old fashioned horsepower, nothing fancy. I may go with port injection and aluminum heads later, but it's plenty for now.
A torqueflight 727 was the first (and last) automatic transmission I rebuilt myself. I concluded I would rather pay someone to do it. Good box though. I had my 700R4 built from a dude in Florida who is great to work with, had it built specifically for my application.
I have the original iron chunk independent rear suspension diffy in the car, just changed the ring and pinion and put in hardened side yolks and heavy-duty joints in the half-shafts. I like the IRS and 4 wheel disks to help me keep it in my lane.

I've concluded that about most of working on cars-- let someone else do it. I have discovered over the years that I grow more tired of burning, cutting, and bruising myself while huffing gasoline.
Disk brakes are a must IMO. Part of my love of 72's, shoulder belts, disc brakes (in the front anyway), and hydraulic cams.
