Health insurance rep thinks I'm obese
This is kind of funny, I got a call from our Human Resource director a few days ago, he said a representative from our health insurance company wants to talk to me. I called her back today, and she said she was concerned I was a health risk because I was technically obese (bear in mind she has never seen me). The thing is, they calculated this just by my height and weight. I'm 6'3" and now about 240, at 10% body fat. She says they don't normally take body fat measurements, they just go by height and weight, and I'm way overweight according to her chart. I told her that perhaps she should meet me in person before making any determination as to whether or not I'm "obese". She said she would get back to me lol

Did you ask her what HR considered her weight?

Yeah I thought it was pretty funny that they would dub someone obese yet don't take body fat measurements. I guess Ronnie Coleman would be super-obese.

yea ... i saw the same thing the other day online....
i also read that if you drink more than 8 drinks alchohol that is that you are considered a alchoholic.... lol...

I'm obese too by BMI
Those indexes assume people just use their bodies for getting from point A to point B

I had problems getting life insurance. They wouldn't give me preferred due to my weight and I look relatively thin at 6'4 258.

At 6'4 they said I should weigh between 175-195lbs. I haven't weighed 195lbs since I was 15. At 310-320, I'm morbidly obese as well. Funny shit!!!

Everybody on this board would be seen as at least obese on the BMI charts. You should have thrown her a double bicep pose and said "feel this honey, now tell me I am obese"

woo woo woo... You are looking at this all wrong... Try to play the obese thing to your advantage.... Yes, to your company you are a risk but they can't drop you number one. Number two you can qualify for handicaped parking (no lie). Number three you can get a rascal scooter since you are classified as obese. I was really really bored one day at work so I searched the companies health care site and looked into a lot of this stuff and you are now eligable for mobility assistance.

I agree as its not accurate. But do you honestly think carrying an extra 50-100 lbs then what you would naturally is completely healthy? Carrying the extra lbs even if muscle has to put some extra stress on your body

There is more joint corrective surgery now then ever before and a lot of it has to do with the extra amounts of weight we carry around with us these days.
