    Ass-To-Grass Squats

Are simply amazing! I've never really done em' before cuz I always thought with my bad knee and heel it would be painful but after a warm-up today I thought wth and wow! You guys are right! I only got up to 225 tho cuz I'm not used to doing em =(

Yea i agree ass to the grass is the only way to do em, unless you have had some knee injuries, i found they work amazing even though its simply a couple more inches lower...ive done all kinds of weights even with 225 or less you can still build mass, its all about the form forget about how much weight u use ya know..

Ass to grass is the only way I've ever done them. I didn't even know people actually put 3 or 4 45 lb. plates on either side and only go down two inches before I switched to the lame gym that I'm in now. The first time I saw that I was like..."WTF???"

parallel and bellow is the only way to go. half squats and quater squats are auxillary exercises, they dont count as a full squat.

i recently had some one on here try to tell me he could squat 585 wei***ng 165lbs, i called BS on him than he admited to maxing on the smith machine. this alos is NOT a full squat

hmm weird. I used to go all the way down. I started going to 90 degrees lately though, i feel like its a lot harder. Maybe its cuz you have to hold at a unnatural tense position? Is there any benefit to going all the way down past 90? Or just personal preference?

this is true, you just need to know your limitations, and only go as far as comfortable as possible...

i always thought you put more load on your knees when you go 90 degrees? By going all the way down the momentum keeps it going smoothly while stopping 90 degrees puts a shit load of stress on your knees as you have no momentum kicking off!

no, going beyond 90* puts stress on the joints going further than its normal ange of motion, especially if there is 500lbs. sitting on your back.very dangerous if your not used to it...major risk for injury.

Oh... okay... I like it, I maintain perfect form the entire time so I don't think I'm hurting myself too bad...

I agree there really ins no need to go right down if anything its dangerous all your doing is putting allot of stress on your lower back and knees

yea parallel is good for me on free squats........hacks and smiths and stuff i'll go all the way down but i go heavy as hell on free squat so parallel is the limit....don't want no injuries

IMO deep, or "ass to grass", squats are the only way to go and are safer than squats to ninety degrees (with exceptions for those with knee injuries, etc.).

"When the squat is performed to a parallel depth, it is the knees, which take the majority of the stress involved in stopping the downward momentum of the squat. When the squat is performed to a full depth, this same “braking” stress is transferred to the larger, powerful muscles of the hips, hamstrings and buttocks. It is obvious that the squat must be performed with a great deal of control and that any type of rapid “rebounding”, whether it is done at parallel or at full depth will be detrimental to the knees."

-excerpt from article by Keith Wassung.

knee wraps saved me...i go very deep on my squats but i dont do them behind the back, i do front squats...i can get 4 plates for 4 reps deep as shit and i have found the are easier on my back and i cant cheat at all....if i lean back i get chopped in the larnyx with te bar, to far forward and it rolls off....need perfect form and man do they make you grow.....
