What do you think of modern Pro BBing ?

Just curious, i'd like to hear what you all think of modern pro bodybuilding, as in the state it exists in currently... Do you think it's going in a good or bad direction? Is it even a legit sport now? Was it ever? Is this shit just a freakshow now? Or is it a great example of dedication and determination?

So yea, i'd like to hear some oppinions, everyone has one, so if you dont like another persons, dont flame them, just state your own. If you really disagree with someones, argue logically.

Anyway, i think its pretty lame now. Everyone is so loaded on drugs, that it is the basis of the sport. And eating, but moreso drugs. And a lot of the competitors, especially the ones getting publicity, are freaks. They look like hell, sell fake dreams, and are just downright gross. Its not even about symetry and aesthetics anymore, just mass... who can be the biggest freak. Anyway, what do you all think

I think the absolute dedication and determination the pro's have is incredible, too be at that level is just amazing, i admire them for this, but i would never want to look like them, the sheer mass is just gross and clumsy looking imo, i think they look almost inhuman, all in all i see it as a "look in awe" type of thing.

see i must be dif. i would love to look like the por's, its amazing and most people say they never want to look like that, but the fact of the matter is 98% of people cant. i think it would just be fun to look like that, and throw around that kind of weight.

btw, nice maro pro-built. is that a 96' or 97'?

It's become too much about getting huge and less about aesthetics. Ronnie's huge but the gut ruins it.

Pro BB these days really isn't all that inspiring to me. When I was a kid I would look at pictures of Labrada, Gaspari, Shawn Ray along with Arnold, Zane, Draper and those kinds of guys and that was what I wanted to look like when I grew up. That's still the kind of physique I aspire to. They looked healthy and aesthetic. These days I don't want to look like the guys on the Olympia stage.

That pretty much sums up how I feel about the current pro bb scene- I wouldn't even want to look like those guys.

I second what you've said... I want people to compliment me on my body and think I'm attractive, not scream when they see me and call animal control...

I agree totally! I admire their dedication and discipline it takes to get there! A physique I aspire to get to is like that of The Choppin Dales (excuse the spelling). Athletic yet big enough to be noticed.

I think its entertainment. I think that bodybuilding needs to start having different classes like all around freakiest, most proportional and all around best looking... or somethin like that.

i personaly think aesthetic physiques should be what people see out of the pro bodybuilding community. sure it's cool to see freaks like ronnie and jay but i don't think they should be the face of bodybuilding because 99% of people that see them pumped up and posing are thinking that bodybuilders are unhealthy looking and really don't look human. i would like to see more classic physiques like steeve reeves, bob paris or even flex wheeler on the covers of fitness magazines and on stage to represent the sport of bodybuilding.

Lesnar is in Pride I think now, that guys a beast. Insanely strong from what I hear.

Ya, the 70's era was perfect in my opinion. Today it's just not nice to look at however I do admire the sheer hardwork put in to get that huge.

I still enjoy following bb'ing, I like a lot of current pro's and I still aspire to earn a pro card one day but personally I prefer the image of bb'ing from the 80's & 90's. There was a lot more aesthetics and I miss pro's like Milos Sarcev, Shawn Ray, Chris Cormier, Mike Matarazzo and Flex Wheeler and some of the old mass monsters like Kevin Levrone, Paul Dillet, Nasser and Dorian.

I would never want to look like any of them. Like someone said they are just freaky looking. And if you honestly believe thats healthy you are crazy.

Yes they have a lot of dedication. But so do a lot of other people. You may not visually see it like a bb. But there are a lot of people who put that dedication into school or work.

Lesnar fought for K-1 back in June. He signed a one fight deal, not sure if/when he will fight again.

EXACTLY, man i could not have said it better myself i love the pro's of the 70's era bb'ers, thats what i aspire to, and may never reach b/c of genetics but when i look in the mirror i say " i'd like to look like zane or arnold" not " i'd like to look like cutler or coleman"

pro bbing is the most unhealthy sport around. competitive eating is probably better for the body.

    BUT,
alot of these pros react so crazy to low doses that they get that huge because they are supposed to. talking to a person very, very close to lee priest and he even said, put lee on 500mg of test and he becomes triple the size of everyone else on the same dose. some were made for it. taking this mentality to the pro level, that means combining a ton of shit at high doses will lead to what we see now, freaks. and thats just what we get. add in synthol to elevate the smaller bodyparts and the diuretics and plasma enhancers at comp time and the bodys look gross.

they all use it. you can see it all over. watch jay's videos, part of his biceps dont even move. its all over the sport. thing is, the guys who know how to use it arent easy to pick out. if youre around these people enough (even the tons of amateurs who use it, and there are a ton) you can see it. the top guys all use it but how they use it varies.

Ironically, yates is my idol, but i think the trend he started has just gone over the edge

coleman and cutler dont look very appealing to me........1995<, existed a time where their was no GH gut, (mostly), and size was blended with symmetry........early to mid 90's is where it is at for me..........Those guys looked appealing to look like them, and i hope the trend could somehow go back to those days. pre gh gut with size as well as symmetry

I follow the sport and plan to compete and think the dedication and training pro's put in is astounding. I would not like to look like any of those mass freaks like Ronnie, Jay, Ruhl or Branch but there are some pro's and up commers who have physiques which I would love to look like. I think Gunter, Melvin Anthony, Ronnie Rockel, Troy Alves and Ahmad Haider...ect have incredible bodies and thats what I'm going for.

now it is a god damn life for these guys... Arnold and Franco layed bricks for years when they were bodybuilding... they did it as a sport and a hobby and enjoyed it... Now no one looks happy, and it honestly looks like a star-trek convention for freaky huge guys at these shows.

Yeah in the pumping iron era almost all the greats trained together, they trained hard but still bs'd around with eachother and had fun. After their workout they would all go get something to eat and head to the beach and hangout or w/o some more. Now the pros usually never train with other pros. Like they dont want to give away any of their secrets.
