The old "how much do you expect to get paid" question

Well I applied for a management position at spencers and I'm going in for an interview later this week...

I figure just like with all other jobs they will probably ask "how much do you expect to get paid"... Well if they ask me how much do I "want" to get paid I will say 1million bux however if they ask how much do I "expect" what do you guys think I should say??? I always figure start off high, but how high should I say???

Say you would like a salary commesurate with your education or experience taking into account the workload they expect you to perform or some other bs. Don't give them a range unless they force you too and then you can give a range of as far apart as 20K. However, it is good to know what others in that field make so you don't shoot yourself in the foot by going overboard. I wouldn't hire someone asking for $60K at $40K as I don't think they would be happy and would look to leave at the first opportunity for a little bit more money.

If it comes down to $$ and you want to haggle dont forget to have a GOOD reason for needing more $$ like going to school for a degree in bis management or some other GOOD reason for wanting more.

Tell them it's difficult to say without knowing all of the details of the positions. Once you have all of the details, you believe you could negotiate a figure both parties could agree on. Then turn it around with a question such as, how much do they pay with positions of similar responsibility, or for that actual position

I'd tell them you're really more concerned with opportunity rather than salary. That way you get them to make an offer and they believe you're professional and more concerned with your future. Then if the offer is shitty you can either negotiate or tell them something better has come up.

Just tell them you want enough to be able to roll in.

    that's pretty good..

with good interview skills, you have to know how to place the question back on the interviewer. you're not only getting interviewed, but you're interviewing them as well so you can rest assured the position is a good match for you just as your interviewer is assessing whether or not you're a good match for the position.

anyway with the salary question, when you're asked, "how much do are you expecting?" you can respond with, "How much does this position typically pay someone with my qualifications?".. doing this will place the burden of talking salary back on your interviewer.

In retail..... There is a large gap in salary. Give them the chance to stick you, and they will. However, I dont believe spences pays over low 40k's..... So ask for 50k and see what they'll do for you.

dont know what spencers is,but i expect £25 ($50ish) an hour and think any educated person would be a mug to earn any less than 25/30 k a year ($40/55k),only my opinion
