Re: Dammit I broke my knee

So after all this bragging about never breaking a bone in my life...I go all out and break my ****ing knee. My patella broke into 6 pieces to be precise. It's now 3 weeks removed from surgery and I can begin exercises with my brace on.

I still have three more weeks before the brace comes off and I begin rehab.

Has anyone else gone through something similar?

I would love some motivation and advice on your experiences so I have something positive to look forward too.

did they remove your patella all together or did they graft it back together.

take it slow. i think that is the best advice you could receive at this point. no need to rush into anything and risk possible injury again.

I know, and I'm going to think extremely rationally and take it slow, but it's easier said then done at this moment when you've been on bedrest for the last 3 weeks.

so, if you don't mind me askin, how did you break your PT in 6pieces? That takes some pretty intense trauma to shatter it like that

I feel for you though, that and the shoulder are the two places in my body that I especially don't want any injuries.

I was playing football...I'm 2 years removed from JC football...playing the sport for 13 years....and while we were tuning up for our annual turkey bowl...which is NOT just for fun...I got tripped up and tackled blind side and I did a superman which my knees out forward and landed hard right on the right knee cap. Son of a bitch this pisses me off still.

I got in head on collision with a transport truck years ago where I end up breaking my left foot, left knee( had 2 screws put in it), left ankle, left femur (had a pin put through it), hip in 4 places, lacerated liver, kidney, pancreas and spleen, broken nose, fractured orbit around my left eye, ripped my left eyelid off and my eyeball came out of the socket, tore up some of my forehead and scalp which required a lot of plastic surgery and I was clinically dead 3 times.
That was about 7 years ago now and I can still deadlift with no problems with heavy weights. I go a bit lighter on squats then I used to since my knee occasionally bothers me but I still go pretty heavy with them. Pretty much all the facial scarring faded and it usually is never noticed.

Damn bro, congrats on that recovery...this is exactly what i needed to boost my morale. How long did it take you to start lifting weight again after your injury?
How long did it take to start trusting your body..specifically your knee again?
I have a long list of shit I want to ask you but I guess I'll start here.

I'm only three and a half weeks removed from surgery. I don't get to take off my brace for another week and a half. I've only been given really minor miniscule exercises to do right now to avoid atrophy in my right quad.

I broke my left forearm in half ...like it was a 45 degree angle..with the bones about ready to pop out. I was in 9th grade in high school... right when i was growing alot.. etc. Long story short the dr sucked and my hand doesnt line up correctly with my elbow...not to mention my arm is naturally smaller and shorter then my right.

I hate broken bones. Pain is so intense..and only gets worse as it swells.

It guess maybe 2 months until i started to try to put a little weight on my leg again while using my crutches. Probably 6 months until I was walking normally again after the physio and maybe a 9months to a year until I was ready to get back in the gym. I just started off slow and gave it a couple steady months of working out before doing my squats and deadlifts again. I believe I waited until they removed the screws from me knee too until I started doing them. They really bothered me.

Ejuicer, wow thats amaizing to come back strong after that!

For you, know how long did it take before the surgery scars started to fade? Also how many surgeries did you need to fix your face/forehead?
(the reasen I ask is because I know a girl who also was in a car-crash recently and need plenty of work done on her face...)

As far as I know it was only one surgery for my face but i'm not sure since I was doped up on morphine for the first week and have no recollection of anything. I did have minor surgery to have my nose realigned later that year though.
The scars probably were about 2 years until they completely faded. For the first year I was very self conscious about it and wore scar make-up to cover them up. After the year they were noticeable still (to me at least) but they continued to fade to the point of not noticing them anymore.
The only one people see anymore still is the one from my eyelid. Whenever I tan heavily I usually get questioned about whether I got in a fight or something.

Again bro, congratulations on your recovery. Injuries like these are never fully understood unless it's happened to you.
