so i've been busy. but lots of decent advice given. some not so decent.

never run 2 anti-virus programs on the same computer. it can cause issues of it's own.

i would have guessed spyware. but some of the effects your describing def. virus.

whoever mentioned nod32 is right or avg. or if you are norton or mcafee crazy then stick with either one of those but only ONE.

if you haven't already. boot up in safe mode like these guys are saying. and perform a windows system restore.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

you can potentially set the computer back before this issue occured as windows saves those settings.

if you try 2 dates and it unsuccessfully restores. then you would start looking at popping in your original os windows disc and running a repair or a reformat.

if it did successfully restore and your issue is gone. make sure you uninstall one of your anti-virus programs leaving ONE left.

i didn't read all these posts in detail. don't have time. good luck.

Seriously Norton is total shit. At home I use Avast. There is a free verion and you can schdule a boot time scan so you can clean up before you even get into Windows. Nice to hear you sorted it though.... Did I mention that Norton is shit?
