Is the pain isolated to the one area? or does it spread to other areas? (down your back or over your shoulder and down your arm)

It don't sound anything too serious but personally i'd stay off the squats for a couple of days as that might aggrevate the problem. Try to change your routine around so you avoid putting stress on your back. Give it a few days and see how it goes. Hopefully it'll just be a slight strain and the couple of days rest will let it repair itself. I asked if the pain was spreading to other areas because it sounded similar to something that happened to me. That started as a pinch in my neck but it got worse and I could feel the pain in about half of my back and down my arm. It turned out that it was a trapped nerve. It doesn't sound like thats the problem you've got but something to keep in mind if the pain seems to move further from the original point.
Hope it clears up soon.

I'm no expert bossman, but your central nervous system runs up through your spine and branches off from that down your arms, legs etc. The term "trapped nerve" is a generalization which doesn't mean that the nerve is actually trapped. In my case I'd just twisted funny (doing behind the neck press) and put my back in an awkward position which had pulled on and strained the nerve at the root. I went to an Osteopathic clinic(not sure if thats what you call them where you're from or chiropractor?) Who loosened the surrounding muscle which had gone very tight and made a couple of adjustments to my spine. It didn't feel much different at first but after a couple of days the pain was nearly all gone, went back for a check up the next week and everything was ok. The best way I can describe how I'd know it was a trapped nerve to someone is that the pain went down my arm was like a tingling numb sensation, like when you fall asleep on your arm and it goes dead. Mine was pretty bad, even reading a newspaper and turning the page was extrememly painful. I think it got that bad because I just figured I could work through it but the more I worked out the tighter the muscles around the source of the pain got and the more intense the pain became. Again i'm not saying this is the same as your problem and you might be able to work through your pain but keep it in mind if you do decide to continue working out and the pain or stiffness gets worse and your symtoms sound like mine.

Oh before I went to the osteopathic clinic my doc told me to try taking anti-imflamatories to sort the problem. They didn't work for me but they might work for you. He gave me ibuprofen 400mg's i think. It won't do any harm to try them for a few days if you think it is a trapped nerve before you spend $$$'s going to the chriopractor
