Gee, I just took another look at that beast - I used to play one just like it at a pizza joint in Dallas years ago . . . Just on Sunday afternoons, 'cause I was in the military at the time, couldn't get off to play more than that . . .

Those street organs were finally banned in NYC in 1936. Before then (for several decades) guys would rent one from a central office, and crank the handle all day long to make it play its one song. They'd take donations for their trouble, and sometimes had monkeys or little kids to take coins. Anyway, it seems that people couldn't take the same damm song playing all day long in NYC, so they banned them. The musical saws were ok . . .
But that's another story . . .
